Newell sacked

I personally don't think it'll be too long until Martin Allen gets the chop too, it was a hard task to keep them in league one but they've dropped a level and are still doing rubbish, currently one win in 10 games, and 6 without a win - that's worse form than Grimsby!

Not a surprise after such poor form, but a surprise that he hasn't been able to do anything with Grimsby.
I'll be the first to admit that I would have liked to have seen Newell here when he was available but it turns out different and I'm happier with Sheridan here instead.
I wonder if Grimsby were just too hot to handle, or if Newell really was out of his depth. I guess we'll find out with a new man there, although if Newell couldn't sort them out, who else will?

Lets all hope RICO get the job, he may come for some of his boys on loan and ease our wage bill - RICO IN!

BUT he did save them from the conference last season, short memories again by the fans. Wonder if it was a mutual thing - hasn't he walked away at other clubs previous.

In other words they said they weren't happy, so he told them where to shove their job.
I have to say Grimsby didn't look all that bad on their recent visit to Saltergate, though.
A physically large, combative side that made it very difficult for us.
But then i guess the league table doesn't lie...

I've seen "irretrievable breakdown" mentioned regarding the sacking, which is a phrase that doesn't often get mentioned in managers getting sacked.
I thought Grimsby would do better this season going on some of their summer signings but Newell just doesn't seem capable of getting the best out of his players, Barry Conlon has so far scored one goal more than he's been sent off. Then there's Danny North who scored 16 goals in two seasons before Newell arrived but since then has scored just one goal and finds himself looking for football elsewhere. Grimsby have higher average attendances than us, should they really be fighting off relegation season after season.
