Do we have a player on the books that wouldn't have scored from there? He hasn't got the quality to start. His only impact was to run about a lot which he couldn't sustain for 90 mins

Agreed. To be honest, if we are relying on Scott Boden to push us into the top 7, I think we'll have problems. Small and Talbot is an option IF we are to drop Lester. Although, I don't reckon we should be leaving Jack out of the team anyway.

For him to start you would need to drop one of Lowry, Lester, Donal, Talbot or Small and i dont see where you can go with that one and we now have Lewis as well to throw into the mix and there is Bowery as well.
PS.....i presume you are talking about Scott Boden by the way and not some new talent we have unearthed by the name of Scott Bowden as the last time i looked at the squad we had noone by the name of Scott Bowden!!

It wouldn't make sense would it? For me, he doesn't have the right attributes to be a good striker at a professional level. He may get one or two goals, but we need more than that. His general play leaves a lot to be desired.

Maybe the teams he was free scoring against in pre season suggests where he possibly should be playing.

My thoughts exactly. The first time I saw Scott and thought he would make the grade was against Sheffield FC in pre season. He was a constant threat and looked really lively. But, as you say, this needs to be qualified by taking into account the standard of the opposition.
I hope he does make the grade, basically he has this season to prove himself and if he doesn't he will be released. Some suggest a loan move might help but I doubt another league side would take him on at the moment, and if he went to a conference team it would still beg the question of whether or not he is up to the job in the football league.

He has a decent record when in the first team doesn't he?
Recalling him scoring a couple when starting last season?

2 goals in 4 starts and 12 sub appearances.
Soccerbase - Scott Boden

It's a decent enough record, especially bearing in mind that some of the sub appearances will only have been for a couple of minutes. But, I can't say that Scott has impressed sufficiently to make me think that he should be in the First XI. Although he seems stronger than last season, he is still lacking in that department and also lacks know how or 'nouse'. Clearly this will take time but in terms of giving the youngsters a chance, Bowery seems to have the better attributes from what we have seen so far and I doubt we will be in a position to be patient with both of them. I hope that Scott proves me wrong though

Sorry Ernie, for me he's got to be given the chance, whats the point of investing in his developement. When he's given 10 minutes by JS I would assume that is what he's been told to do. Your comment about 'scoring from there' is precisely what we've been short of recently - someone in the 6 yard box.
Thats my take on on it anyhow.

Personally, despite scoring a couple last season and a few in preseason against low quality opposition, i've seen little to suggest he will add much more than a bit of running around and the major issue is that to start him you have to drop someone and i cant see who you are going to drop before you take into account there are probably a few ahead of him as well.

Not a chance, he offers nothing to the team, he may have scored saturday but it didn't count so is totally irrelevant. He looks bright enough and eager to run around but that's it, he is to easily brushed aside, way to lightweight for this division, he is also no where near good enough. Compare him to the stocky solid build of Donaldo who is far from easy to get knocked off the ball.
I just don't get this insistence Boden has something to offer, he is conference standard nothing more anyone who says otherwise is barking mad or obviously sees a different player to me.
I have nothing against the lad but it will never be a regular for us, i see him being released at the end of the season, Bowery is a far better bet to make the grade however i also have my doubts about him.
