no real suprise, can't see that he's made any improvement at all while he's been there, when teams like Accrington and D&R can get away from the bottom of the table on their attendances then there's no reason why Grimsby can't improve.

I personally don't think it'll be too long until Martin Allen gets the chop too, it was a hard task to keep them in league one but they've dropped a level and are still doing rubbish, currently one win in 10 games, and 6 without a win - that's worse form than Grimsby!

Not a surprise after such poor form, but a surprise that he hasn't been able to do anything with Grimsby.

I'll be the first to admit that I would have liked to have seen Newell here when he was available but it turns out different and I'm happier with Sheridan here instead.

I wonder if Grimsby were just too hot to handle, or if Newell really was out of his depth. I guess we'll find out with a new man there, although if Newell couldn't sort them out, who else will?

BUT he did save them from the conference last season, short memories again by the fans. Wonder if it was a mutual thing - hasn't he walked away at other clubs previous.

I'm sure i heard the phrase 'irreconcilable differences' used to describe the relationship between Board and Manager on Sky this morning.

In other words they said they weren't happy, so he told them where to shove their job.

I have to say Grimsby didn't look all that bad on their recent visit to Saltergate, though.

A physically large, combative side that made it very difficult for us.

But then i guess the league table doesn't lie...

Newell's ruined a pretty good repuatation as a manager over the last couple of years. How sad.

True. But at Luton things were going well until the wheels fell off. He might be having to look non-league for his next appointment.

I've seen "irretrievable breakdown" mentioned regarding the sacking, which is a phrase that doesn't often get mentioned in managers getting sacked.

I thought Grimsby would do better this season going on some of their summer signings but Newell just doesn't seem capable of getting the best out of his players, Barry Conlon has so far scored one goal more than he's been sent off. Then there's Danny North who scored 16 goals in two seasons before Newell arrived but since then has scored just one goal and finds himself looking for football elsewhere. Grimsby have higher average attendances than us, should they really be fighting off relegation season after season.

According to the regoinal news last night, their chairman stated the loss on saturday had no bearing on the decision to sack him. This was despite him, quite forcefully, stated last week that his position was not under threat and they felt he was still the right man to take them forwards.

Thats quite a graphic report too, usually "words of a racist nature" is used!!

Given that Windass anounced his retirement from playing yesterday, I'd suggest he wants the Grimsby job.

The embarrasing Dad incident 4 months ago is hilarious... parading around with his shirt off in the pub! He's gone even more crazy!
