The club said it was a 50 week build and with a built in variance of 2 weeks either way.

There was also the option of a 40 week build subject to additional (very high) costs for extra labour etc, maybe this explains DA additional invest "for the new ground"

Interesting thought 'Sammy'. IF you're right (and I'm not saying you're wrong) then there must have been a bit of a hitch that delayed the original planned start (I think somebody posted something about a conservation order on a couple of trees on another thread?). A 40 week build would mean there's still plenty of time and, as you say, would explain the additional investment. £2m though? What sort of wages are building workers on these days? :D
If nothing acts faster than anadin, why do we buy anadin?

Do you really think DA would be prepared to throw an additional £2M at a project to simply reduce the build schedule by 20%?

Why would he want to do that?

No way Jose.

'MP-Spire', if you read my post carefully you'll see that I was hinting at that very point by asking what sort of wages builders earn these days if a 10 week delay adds £2m. Like you, I find it hard to believe that the Club (or more accurately DA) would happily pay our an extra £2m just to speed up the build programme!

Sorry all but in direct relation to the earliers posts on this topic, see how easy it is for people to get sucked in to a thought process just cos someone posts it on here?

Although there will be a small amount of ley-way in the build schedule we are not in a position to chuck money at it to ensure we start the season there, why would we? We still have saltergate until the new ground is ready remember.

As to the reasons behind the 'Extra' £2m? without no official reasoning for it, what else can we do but make our own mind up?

I'd look at the contracts of Sheridan, Wright, Crossley and Breckin and then those that will sign in the future.

What was the time scale of the above statements - we apparently saved money on the build cost because of the economic downturn. There is additional funding for labour in those savings so maybe we should just back off a bit and take heart from those people a little more in the know.

I'd recruit the Tesco builders once they've finished their new store.

Only possible delay would then be waiting for the grass seed to germinate....

Hey up Dave, thats correct mate, the only problem now is because of the economic downturn Saltergate is not worth as much.I have a guess that the prospective buyers of Saltergate won't pay the original price for the site, thus causing a shortfall in revenue to fund our new stadium.Well Mr Allen has chucked in £6 million so we are led to be believed, not noted at CH as yet though??.At the end of the daymate,i think we are about to be let down again bigstyle, just hope i am wrong.

Best Scenario

We are waiting for the work on Sheffield Road to finish, i.e. road markings, traffic lights, bus stops, tarmacing, dog fouling bins etc..... and once this is out of the way, the big stuff can start

Means start next week

Worser Scenario
A preservation order on a small tree

Wait for tree to die/ take high Court Action/ European Court ??

Worst Scenario
Funding Gap which no one foresaw of around £1million

Dave Allen to raise funds
Supporters to raise funds
Stay at Saltergate

Well surely that fact was available to DA before he decided to back the build. If that was the case surely they would not make the announcements they have since the original announcement. If there is a delay then I would say it is a new issue. Maybe it is supply of the main structure and they don't want a stop start senario = just a thought.

I've asked for my ashes to be sprinkled at Saltergate in my current will. I was going to update for it to happen at Dema but I'm going to hold off for a bit and await developments.

Why all the stupid bickering when this is an important issue to the fans!

I have for a few weeks now been checking regularly on the website for updated news on the ground ............ if you look, that last club post was BH's on 22nd February 2009. This ought to be a momentus occasion for CFC and hey, the town too, yet aside from the obvious lack of activity on the ground, the club appear not to be interested enough to post regular updates.

Hang on, just answered my own [ and many other peoples ] question .......... no website posts as no activity!

Forget all the rumours, forget the speculation [ otherwise some might think we are just about to pinch Owen from under Ferguson's red wine enlarged nose ] how about BH or DA standing up and making an unequivocal statement about the current status of the new ground.............. it's not rocket science, just be honest and retain a modicum of respect........... please!

To be honest, another week or so, and the whole things may begin to appear like a farce..That's something the club can do without, given the positive news on investments/players

Good post and surely not too much to ask.

One slight issue - your use of the word retain. To me, that would suggest respect for the club's customers previously existed....
