Agents, parity with other big earners at the club, its all immaterial, we have been offered £400K for a fast small striker who is playing at his level, Championship probably a step to far, but the club make good money even with the sell on clause, probably £300k so clearing £200K profit.
This might help make up for the gates being down.
I think we are still trying to dress the club up for a sale. BH and MW need to find a buyer they have bank loans secured against them, if the club goes into administration they have to pay the loans back, who has that sort of money today.
Its all about selling the club, BH and MW are desperate to get out but without a huge loss.
In today,s football world small clubs are finished, If they find a buyer great, but why would anyone with the sort of money required, invest in a club like ours, they can make no return on the millions of pounds required to run and build the club.
The ground is simply window dressing to generate interest for a sale, a few thousand for planning applications its seed corn.
The only thing being built on Dema is Tesco, the two builds are not joined at the hip, one can be built in advance of the other, its happening already.
I hope I am wildly wrong, that the investor is in the wings and Rico is sacked tomorrow, but I have a bad feeling about the future of our club.

Me too mate I think there is something seriously wrong with the club and I think we are heading for total collapse. Something about the investor/gropund just doesnt ring true, and like you I hope I'm wrong

Ayup Dave.

Can you shed any light on the following:

Is it true that JW has visited Barnsley today and is excused training tomorrow?

Is it true that he was prepared to sign a three and a half year deal as long as it was on parity with a member of the squad that spends much of his time on the bench?

Is it true that he was offered around five hundred a week less than this member of the squad and told by the Manager that he isn't as "versatile" as that person and that the manager has doubts over his long term consistency?

Is it true that Ward's agent has been told he's no longer welcome at Saltergate as a result of his on-air candour?

Just to clear up a few nasty rumours i've heard, you understand.

I wouldn't be suprised, I beleive that the Hubbard had no intentions over Wardy other than selling him

Heyup
Can't shed any light on any of it. Probably all true - and I hope it happens. We were right not to cave in to his demands. I would guess that the 3.5 year deal would also have included a good old 25% of any fee for himself as well.

Is it true that this contradicts the rumour that Ward was desperate to get away ?

Don't panic. We hold the aces and we can get just the deal we want.

Your argument assumes ongoing cashflow, what if it begins to disappear?

League 2 club offered 400k for a small/lightweight striker, periodically deficient of his hamstring?

I'd take it personally

Think the 400k offer is a good opening tester offer in Deal or No Deal terms

But with other Clubs interested and still 25 days to go of the transfer window lets see what the fax machine will spew out next

Only last week some on here thought 250k would be all we could get.

I'll hold my hands up- I was one of them who didn't think we'd get over £250K for someone with six months left. £400K is a great price- if we get Odijeyi on top of it fantastic.

Not forgetting Jamie O'hara and Hitzlespurger (however you spell it)

fishini, I'm a great supporter of your comments but I need to put you right on one matter; Hitzlespurger was a Nicky Law signing.........what a great manager who got the team playing passing football on the ground rather than Ricco's hopeful "punt" in the air and hope we get on the end of it!!

the only reason ward wasnt offered parity is because the hubbard needs the cash because he has realised how much the crowds are going to be down ,it is simply to cover the shortfall in attendences he was never stopping. It is obvious now that the B****Y useless richardson will be here till the end of this wretched and the reason is probably because hubbard is still chasing after the ghost investors....only chesterfield could build a new stadium  and try to find a new investor in the middle of a recession....amateurs

Only going on what the agent said in interview but he did mention that the fee was £400k and torquay are entitled to 25% of that which still gives us £300k. This is what I heard in the part of the interview i listened to. :excl:

We only have to pay Torquay 25% of any profit we make on Ward.
Making their cut £75k!

Y'know, the more i toss this whole sorry mess about in my mind, the more i'm convinced that the Club really would prefer cash to Ward's goals.

Hence the scandalous situation where the top scorer in our league is offered less than someone that spends most of his time on the bench.

As i said on another thread, instead of being a welcome bonus maybe the cash from Ward's departure will be used to bridge the gulf left in finances by the Board's poor decisions.

When you have been watching town for close on 40 years and having been in leagues 4 and 3 old money all that time, you can look at it 2 ways,1 no ambition or 2 we need the money,so until we don't need the money this is how it is going to be unless there is a dramatic change, the sale of Ward doesn't surprise me in the least and when you have been coming as long as me you will get used to it,Chris, money will always talk at a club like ours, all the best Wardy,i suppose we will find another like you and so the cycle will keep on turning
