I thought, like with Caleb, it was profit only. The sell on relates to all profits received which is why Leeds got money when Caleb went to Hull and we would get more if he went to QPR for more than £1m.

Is it transfer specific then? As mentioned earlier, an agreement between two clubs rather than a law from the FA? Perhaps Geoff could enlighten us...? It's a topic that's been debated on the forum many times before. I'm not trying to claim anything, just that most sources point to a sell on from the transfers net value. I'd like to know!

I'm probably in a minority of one, but I reckon £300k - £350k is about all Ward's worth. (That's not to say I wouldn't want to us to do the unthinkable and make a killing if we can). What's more, I don't think he'll have a long term future in the Championship.

I'd like to see him with good service before i'd comment on that, as for what he's worth well thats as much as someones willing to pay, what concerns me is the money we get for him going to be spent on the team, (which we all know the answer 2)

I am sure clubs could agree anything but it would be silly to buy for £1m knowing you had to sell for £1.33m just to recoup your money. Every one I have seen has been % of profit.

Firstly, i think we should give Erniex3 credit for sharing accurate info with us a couple of weeks ago.

Secondly, let's all understand what Ward's agent's agenda was tonight: it was to publicise the fact that Barnsley had offered four hundred big ones to any other interested parties. Obviously if someone outbids the Tykes he gets a larger cut, hence his candour.

Then, maybe the fact that he's publicly stated the Club did not offer parity with those enjoying long contracts at top wack tells us it must be correct, otherwise there'd be a lawsuit heading his way from someone at CFC.

Finally, i think Barnsley's offer is far better than anything we could expect at a tribunal, so, given the Club's failure to secure Ward's signature on a new deal, we've no option but to accept it. Unless Derby or Norwich are prepared to 'gazump' the Tykes, of course.

PS: i thought the agent's comments about Barnsley playing good football and offering Ward "...the sort of service he'd want" was quite revealing.

Only info passed on from the Barnsley end but it wasn't accurate, price was but I was told Adejayi on top. Obviously if that is first offer and there may be a bidding war there may be more to come. Perhaps that's their opening bid and I was told the extent they are prepared to go? O rsomeone just had a good guess and fed me a line

Sounds a bit to good to be true, or are they trying to offload a player to pay Wards wage

Not sure how a tribunal would now view Ward if it came to it after a now publicised 400k bid

What club will sue one of its players for things said in contract negotiations particularly when it would make public everyone of their players contracts?

Exactly, he could not asked for parity per se, as no one else has or wants a get out clause (If only they worked both ways) negotiations on this would have been the sticking point.

Or buy for 1million and then be a flop and sell for 500k and still have to give some to the original seller

Sell ons CATEGORICALLY a percentage of profit. I believe the fee paid to Torquay was £116k (was undisclosed if you remember) so their 25% on numbers above that only.

More likely it was wishful thinking on the Barnsley fan that told me as he doesn't rate him lol. He'd be good enough at this level

Spiriteboy,

Got a little problem with Wardy & parity. Lets say the top whack is £2,500 a week. Why the F would Wardy be prepared to sign for parity at CFC, when he could go and double his money elsewhere?

A very good source told me £117k - not far out there then.

Far more frightening in my eyes would be Richardson being allowed to spend any of the money. And though it appears beyond the grasp of many on here, that would include loan players. Surely such an act would require a level of negligence beyond even The Incompetent. I'd sooner see it be earmarked for bog rolls for the new stadium than that happen....

Exactly - something missing in his agent's account - no pun intended !

And that leads us on to who may be better payers in The Championship. I'd wager Barnsley would be in the lower reaches of any league table...

And if Mr Negligent had backed Roy, he'd have been here straight from Villa with no fee involved; Torquay would have never been in the equation. Further damning evidence, were it needed, of how Hubbard's hideously incompetent stewardship has cost the club a small fortune.

When you consider the backing that he since given LR, it really does put what Roy Mac could hae achieed into perspective
A new hope.
