Downes has always been an excellent defender; much as I like Janos, Aaron is in a different class as a footballer. The problem last season was that we had two inexperienced CBs which led to mistakes. Rico made the right call in getting more experienced defenders in and retaining Downes.
Incidentally, I've always maintained that Barry Roche's form was undermined by the uncertainty when Downes and Kovacs were playing, and, nothing against Carson who is ok, but Roche is a better keeper and I still say it's a shame that our 'fans' hounded him out.

<_< Although Page has been an asset to the the back four and the team as a whole, I don't rate Austin or Hall above Kovacs. And Janos has youth on his side and will only get better. Keeping him would have been an investment for the future.
Many a good tune

Obviously you not only do not watch CFC very often but you do not watch Big League Weekend on Sky every week, if you did you will see the same type of goals conceeded week in week out as when he was here e.g coming out for a cross, miss judging the flight and tap in for the striker. He has looked at fault most weeks for the goals Morcambe are conceeding.
