Just heard Robert Page on Radio Sheff confirm players agreed pre-season not to have any bonuses unless they were in 7th place or higher in the table.

Page also said they traded this in for a better bonus for top 3, so confident they were of achieving automatic promotion

So Rico was saving the club money by chipping in mediocre performances and being lower mid-table.
