That's quite an indictment on Richardson as he has brought in 6 of the 8 people who challenge for those positions.
My own take is thus:
GK - Sorted - Carson looks like he will do the business for the season.
RB - Personally I'd play Lowry here, he has never let us down playing here and I'm not convinced he has the pace or crossing ability needed of a winger. I would only play him RW if it was a more defensively minded. Assuming LR doesnt want Lowry there he might be tempted to strengthen.
CD - Page and Austin hasnt worked because they are to similar. Having said that I think we are OK here as we can play Page with either Downes or Hall. I think Hall will do well if he gets a chance.
LB - Goodall / Robertson arent spectacular but both are capable of doing a job. More important areas to strengthen.
RW - Right footed Currie seems the obvious choice and I think would do better here than on the left. We dont really have any out and out width however.
CM - 4 players here that should be capable of doing a job so I dont see it as a priority for new signings. That said its a worry how no-one seems to know which 2 are best, least of all Richardson.
LW - This position has been criminally neglected since Bastiens left. Currie hasnt done anything this side so this position would be my personal priority. Maybe Val could do a job here short term?
CF - Its always going to be Lester plus 1. My feelings on Ward are well know and I dont feel he plays his best with Lester in the team. The lack of a target man has cost us and again this would be a big priority for me. Luke Boden sounds like another midfielder imho.

Another option is to go 3-5-2 and bring Page or Hall into the back 3.
Attacking wing-backs of Lowry & Robertson/Val might be options then.
CM - needs a good attacking mid-fielder (Disley type) capable of arriving in the box on time - Harsley & Winter struggle to get past the half-way line before a cross come in, Kerry needs some horse-muck in his boots, Curry couldn't play in a 3-5-2 leaving Niven as the only one with a bit of height & legs on the books. The defensive midfielder then would be between Winter & Harsley.
Up front we need a big guy capable of bossing CBs, pacy, with a goal threat - Ward never replaced Folan on that score - to play alongside Jack/Jamie with the other on the bench - wished we'd signed Sam Parkin from Luton instead of the two we got.
Send Luke Boden back - he's not impressed upfront, on the right, left or centre of midfield.

I believe he is. According to a Macc fan I know Harsley's best position by far is at right back. He can push forward with the ball but is more conservative than picken, is strong in the tackle and plays the ball intelligently.
So Target man....and confidence for the rest of the side. I still believe we have the team to do much better.

After the performance on Saturday, certain players should really have a look in the mirror, two or three of them should be looking for new clubs.
Rico knows who they are, I hope they don't start on Saturday, I'd sooner play the kids.

What's the problem with you naming them?. We could then say whether we agree with you.

..................Carson............
Goodhall...Hall...Page...Harsley
Robertson..Niven ..Kerry..Currie
.........Lester..Ward.
Tex..Lowry..Winter..Austin/Downes..Lee..
`On paper`, those players should be solid enough and certainley good enough to get results in this division, so why are we losing so many games?????
( Although we do need a target man as an optin to change things)

Like your idea of 5-3-2 or 3-5-2, whichever way you look at it as it should strengthen us down the spine; however the wing backs would have to run their socks off. Who would be your wing backs? Robertson is the obvious choice for me but not sure about down the right. I'd be tempted to play Currie as part of the midfield 3 due to his passing ability - this would require two decent tacklers around him though as I don't think he's the sort that would get stuck in.
