What gibberish, I hope you've not visited one of its more dodgy establishments once too often and developed something really unpleasent.
I really hate to defend Brighton but it’s not such a bad place and its certainly an interesting place. It does have a seedy side and some characteristics more common of big cities this is obviously related to its proximity to the smoke.
As for its surrounding areas, that’s the South Downs and rural Sussex, not Crawley which is 20 miles distant (and is a shithouse). That’s like saying Rotherham and Mansfield are surrounding districts of Chesterfield (no thanks).
Rise above the abuse and just enjoy we've got one over on them for once.
