Lets see.

I saw him play a lot for Ipswich and he didn't track back, tried to do to much on the ball and gave it away far to often for my liking.

Sorryto be a pesimist as I am normally completely the opposite but like I put above I have seen Currie play enough games to make a judgement imo.

Saying that I hope I am wrong and he has learnt from his mistakes at Ipswich. Fresh start and all that.

Good Luck Daz in another Town shirt.

A mate of mine, who's an Ipswich supporter, basically said the same thing. We know what we are getting but actually this type of player is what we need as the midfield was devoid of flair, width and creativity. As much as he will be exciting I'm sure he will be fustrating, but we've been crying out for this kind of player for a while and it solves the problem on the left. At this level he is a good signing - not sure I'd elevate him to the same level of Lester though. And so what if we signed him for three years. If the first two years are spent help us get promoted and then consolidate in Div 1 then park him on the bench for the last year - mission accomplished.

Now for a goalie and a target man striker......

When everyone was putting names forward for Riccos replacement lots of people were putting Adams name forward as the messiah. He now goes for a player to play in a higher league to us who then opts to play for town and so is automatically not able to look decent when he drops a level. Perhaps it's a good job we didn't get Adams in as manager as it looks like he isn't a very good judge of a player.

Adams thought Currie could do a job in league 1, Rico thinks he can do a job in league 2. They are probably both right

At least now we may have the occasional good set piece delivery as ooposed to seeing the ball sail over everyones head 9 times out of 10 or over the bar and into the upper levels of the kop

So has the `investors` cheque book!!!!!!

I hope with this level of backing Lee can produce the goods.

Do you know for sure that the budget given this season is higher than last? The squad numbers are smaller so it may be a case of Rico looking for quality over quantity.

What happens from now will be the telling factor. I wouldn't have thought yet we were over budget, with the numbers etc. If we sign a few more who aren't jsut squad fillers then it's safe to say money is being fed in. Until such point I think not

I'm with Death! Barry wouldn't do a Rotherham, so how else are we affording these players? I hear what you are saying with smaller squad and Fletch's wages but Page, Austin, Harsley, Lester and Ward are not here on the cheap! 3500-4000 fans a home dosn't add up to these signings to me? And why are they all turning down 1st division teams to come to us?? With Page for instance the Udders fans thought he'd left them for a team in the championship they thought he was that good! They couldn't get their heads around why he'd turned them down to come to us!! He didn't even wait and weigh other offers up; he jumped straight in and signed for us!! What does this tell you? Somebody is paying for these players surely!

Fair point but it's worth remembering that all the players mentioned above were offered longer term deals than are normally given and in some cases more than was offered by their respective former clubs.

I'm inclined to agree with Ernie x 3.

Use your common

Page? Austin? Currie?

£2000 a week?

How much are they on compared to the guys they replaced?
A new hope.

I was reading some of the anti Rico and Hubbard stuff on here last night and though to myslef 'wouldn't it be a smack in the face of these fans if we somehow pulled the Currie signing off' then I read the posts it ain't going to happen and I had to agree with them!

But the boy Rico done good! Again!!!

We are obviously getting bankrolled by somebody on the sidelines, who? I don't care at the minute, just looking forward to what should be a cracking season ;)

NOW can some of the fans FINALLY LAY OFF the manager and Big Barry and let's get behind the lads and hopefully get the numbers up at Saltergate, because contrary to what some think the lads are not going to do it if the fans aren't with um!!

Well said!

Well Leven was one of the higher earners and Dalek I think it was stated that Kovacs was also so whilst not being on as much the difference betwen the 2 isn't probably excessive so may not have completely blown the budget. We've also saved on all the marginalplayers we let go. Would chief have been cheap even though he was finished?

Although someone may be chipping in with "sponsorship" of soem kind i don't think we areseeing us being ban rolled just yet. As I said before what happens from now will be the telling time. 2 more high earners and yes the cash is coming in from somewhere etc

I wonder whats happened to the 60% wage cap. Is Hubbard gambling on success and/or a takover?

Do you all think that the security of the 3yr deal may have clinched the deal on a moderate wage plus a simular bonus stucture to Jack.

I don't think the cap should be a problem this season - what's 60% of 12 million? The cost of the ground must be accounted for in our turnover figures and totally distort the budget. We should be really worried though if we get anywhere near exceeding it!

Using my common sense, if you look at the players who have gone.

Leven; Smith; Jackson; Kovacs; Davies; Grey; Roche; O'Hare; Chief; Fletcher; Cooper; Dyer and Jordan (may have missed some out). In addition we are no longer paying for the players on-loan: Hartley; Dowson; Annerson; Kerry; Hawkins and Maloney

This season we have so far brought in

Page; Harsley; Austin; Kerry; Hall and Currie. Algar and Whatsize has signed on (most likely low wages) and some other kid (forgot the name).

Would you consider the bottom half to be costing more than the top half?

I wont count loan players, as we will,at some stage bring some in during the coming season..(Dyer was here for a month or so, and could be classed as a loan addition.)

Mr Bowler alledged Cooper was on pay as you play deal.

Smith Jackson and davies wont be on much more than the 3 kids we have given deals to.

Kovac, Grey,AOH. or Austin Page Hall. Page will most definatly be on more than any of the first 3,AOH wouldnt have been a huge earner, nor I imagine would Grey. Austin wont be cheap, certainley as the swans offered him something. Hall similar to AOH I would imagine.

Currie would be worth more than Leven, who had fitness issues and not being chased by other clubs at the time.

Fletch would have had a decent, but not huge wedge(bormuff?), and chief, as he didnt have that much of a playing future wouldnt have been on massive wages either.

We still have another forward to come in, and this year we have 3 players on a big wage, last year we only had Lester.

As much Credit must go to the cheque book as to the manager.

Unless you have access to the clubs accounts, specifically players wages, it's impossible to know. We'll have to agree to disagree.

While we are all hoping maybe we should hope the 3rd year of his contract is for Championship football.
Or perhaps we should just take it one step at a time - and for now just hope that the transfer is actually completed!
