if he is still playing at his best then it should be a very good signing.i'll express the obvious caution about giving a 33 year old a 3 year deal, thats a very brave move lets hope it works.
If you do what you always do, you'll get what you always get.

He's probably not as fast as he used to be but his guile and passing ability should have improved with experience. Perhaps we'll use him as a direct replacement for Leven in central midfield leaving Niven/Kerry to do his running and to get the ball for him.

Thing are beginning to look a bit better. This is a bit of quality and Currie could be the playmaker. Along with the strengthened defense and a proper captain who can kick ass this should, at least, propel us into the play-offs IF we can get a good 'keeper and a big man up front.

Have we got depth though to sustain injuries?

If Rico is going to continue to play a squad system quality back ups are needed. If the investment is there this season a couple of quality signings along with some shrewd loan players and we COULD be challenging for the top spot. But please don't quote me. We are a long way from that yet.

We now have in midifeld (IMO)

Currie Niven Winter Harsley.......Lowry and Kerry as back up. (not counting the 3 kids)

6 defenders

Target man and keeper, owt else can be covered by short term loans
A new hope.

I would like to think Lowry is first choice RM

probable midfield Lowry Niven Kerry Currie
Robertson Algar and Winter as back up

probable defence Harsley Page Austin Picken
Hall and Downes as back up

Lester and Ward up front
big man and loan player as back up
Bring Sakashvili to justice

The juicy prospect mate is that if money is made available we will be able to buy some more quality. Where would that be?I know your a Winter fan but I'm not I'm afraid. The thought that we might go into the market to 'strengthen the squad' and buy some quality on the right of midfield makes me drool in anticipation. If it happened we could run away with the league like we did with Nicky Law until the troubles began.

It would be like having Bonnyman and Birch in the same side. Not since Bonnyman, Birch and Wilson have Town been so rich in midfield talent. If we are truely aiming for the Championship that has to happen again.

I wouldnt say I am a Winter fan as such, but I do think he is a better player than many give him credit for, and with a run in the side could do a job for us.

Yeah, a midfield of the calibre, wouldnt it be great.
A new hope.

Wingin Seaguls are givin it large on BBC 606 moaning about Currie not being any good and it being madness to sign him on a 3 year deal. Sour grapes I say but suppose its to be expected. Am I right in thinking Brighton also lost out on Page as well???

A few Luton fans saying he was pants for them and he has a bad attitude :) but Wycombe fans are saying he was the dogs :)

He can say what he likes. Darren Currie is an EXCELLENT player at this level, just as Jack Lester is.

The only Currie worry (I'm a poet  ) is with Robertson! Now I unlike some like the lad, but I have grave concerns for the lad as he likes to get forward and let's face it he's going to get less proctection from Currie than he did last season so I can't see him starting.

My back four would be Harsley, Page, Austin and a supprise considering I'm not the greatest fan of his Phil Picken at left back, but I would like to see Phil solely play leftback and not left wingback as I've never rated him going forward and he doesn't track back well but as an out and out full back he could do an excellent job protecting Currie who is going to be an luxary player, rather than a team player.

This would obviously alter midfield as Harsley would be taking the place of the fullback switch over by Picken, so my midfield would be Lowry, (love to see a Currie sort of signing in the middle, but as it stands, Winter), Niven, Currie
(The other option of mine would be to drop Lowry to right wingback and sign an out and out right winger).

Upfront goes without saying

Subs watsize, Hall, Downes, Kerry, Big mobile striker. (may even leave the keeper out if Algar is looking good, depending on who we are playing as we don't have much in the way of creativity on the otherwise solid looking bench)

Have I missed anyone out?

I think you are underestimating Hall, who was an outstanding prospect until his injury. This lad can play!!. My back four would be Hall, Page, Downes, Austin. Then Harsley defensive midfield, and let all the others just go out, work hard, and express themselves. One thing for certain - Lowry will be in the first eleven.
Get it on, bang the gong , get it on

Is that the truth or is it sour grapes cos he's holding out for the money they owe him?? He's always come across as a bit of a cocky sod but then again most footballers have egos so i'm sure
he'll be fine. Besides i'm sure that Page & The Doorman wont stand for any funny business!

Totally agreed with that one!

I hope your right about Hall, Hasley looked better at RB according to the Vale lot, but I've got to admit I'd like him to start in the middle and relegate Niv to the bench. Can Hall play right back? I thought he was a centre back or have I got this wrong?

Does this mean Niven or Winter would drop to the bench? IMO Winter would get the nod.

Totally agree, he might not have the pace to make a big impact in the championship but in league 2 he shud be one of the best players in the league. The main thing is he's got the know how & experience
to do very well in this division.
