Might as well go; We've got 3 capeable (Downes IS capeable, just wish he'd show it more often) CB's who are in theory all good enough. Having 4 CB's all good enough for the first team would unsettle the others.

We need four to provide cover. If one gets injure or out of form (or at the Olympics) we would be left with nobody to fill an absolutely crucial position. Last year we has Downes, Kovacs, Gray and O'Hare all experienced centre halfs

hopefully he will stop - 4 top CB which will keep the first choice 2 on their toes and provide healthy competition.

whatever he does I will always welcome Janos back to saltergate

Well I don't think that keeping Janos (a "first team" centrehalf) would help matters. Would prefer someone who won't be too fussed if they didn't have a first team place.

Lol. I'd rather have someone who wanted to be in the 11, and was peed off each week if they weren't. Model Pro's should be able to deal with that, work hard in training, and when the chance arrives, grab it with both hands. Competition is good for everyone.

Not someone who was just quite happy to be on the bench and still pick up his pay packet.

Well I guess I worded it poorly. I'd want someone who wants a first team place... but wouldn't be causing unrest in the squad if he wasn't... someone like O'Hare I guess...

Transfers - June 2008
If an out-of contract player under 24 (who has been offered a new contract but has turned it down) moves clubs within the same country, then his "old" club are entitled to compensation.

If the two clubs cannot agree a fee, then it will be determined by a tribunal.

Basing it on this statement if Kovacs goes what can we expect to get for him and do we have to share it with his Hungarian club ?

I guess Leven being 24 doesn't come under this ruling.....

pretty sure that we're entitled to nothing for Leven. if Kovacs goes to somewhere in England, then we'd get a fee but I'd expect it to be pretty nominal. if he goes to Scotland or anywhere else, we'd get nowt - like Oldham with that young striker who left them last season.

I hope he stays but if he goes, I reckon Lowry could make a good CB so wouldnt be too panicked about starting the season with the 3 contracted players that we have. Wingers have got to be priority!

I think Kovacs could still be here at the start of next season and if his form continues he will move in the Jan window.

Well, this is my guess........
kovacs has got himself into a bit of a pickle unless he leaves England.
He and his agent have to find a club which will match our offer and pay us compo. That won't happen with a div 2 club and clearly nobody else any higher is willing to take a punt. Therefore, unless he is willing to take a pay cut at another club so that their total outlay including compo is managable, he will accept our offer and stay.
Get it on, bang the gong , get it on

That reads like we've forced the player into a corner. We're in a win-win situation regardless.

I also recall hearing that we'd punted a small fee on him when the two-year "loan" expired, which probably reinforces the idea that MTK will be due nothing from any subsequent deal.

That clears that up then, nothing was mentioned about any money being passed over when he signed that deal, about three weeks time they will all be reporting back for pre season and everything should be in place hopefully to mount a serious challenge....
