Before this thread becomes another playground for the great fight over whether a) Rico sucks and has a terrible beard or  Rico's learning and beards are cool ... I just want to point out that I have no idea what goes into any training session at CFC (or any training anywhere really ... hence the growing ring of skin round by belly) ... so I am not trying to have a go. I also think that Rico has moved quickly in the close season to try and rectify the glaring deficiencies of what was IMHO not a disaster, but definitely for me, a disappointing season.

Last season I seem to remember a good bit of chat about the back room staff, and I for one was saying that I thought it was a very positive move ... it always seemed to help on Football Manager at least (grab those 5 star rated out of work guys ... or the folks on 20p at some unheralded non-league team)!!!

Now though I would venture that that money may not have been the best investment (this obviously being written with the benefit of hindsight)

In terms of fitness ... I don't remember reports coming in of us moving up a gear, or even dare I say it, lasting the pace, for the full 90 minutes of a game.
Many raised questions over the fitness and mobility (or lack of it) in midfield ... something which appeared an issue throughout the season.
In terms of reserve team fixtures ... I can't say that I heard too much talk about many fixtures being arranged on a regular, if ad hoc basis.
Roche, and Jordan, and then Roche had spells when they didn't bring much confidence to the team.

If we have a specialist fitness coach, we had a 'Reserve' team manager, and on another thread it highlights a keeping coach ... surely some questions have to be asked there, given the failings of last season?

Maybe I'm barking up the wrong tree completely, but if there was an issue with some players fitness, isn't that the fitness coaches job to rectify that ... if that doesn't happen over a full season ... surely something's wrong?

If I'm incorrect, or have facts mixed up, please feel free to highlight that, as I will humbly plead ignorance, it's thrown out as a thought, open for debate.

On another slant ... who are the 'backroom team' ... and how long do they each have left?

Cheers!

Out of interest we were a better second-half team than in the first.

For what it's worth, my information is that the management (plural) are neither respected or particularly liked by the players.

But i'm sure those with a pro-hierarchy point of view will pour scorn on that information.

What we can say without fear of contradiction though, is that both Shane Nicholson and Scott Sellars lack any kind of real experience in their roles and i wonder just how they measure up in terms of certificates or qualifications?

Infact for all the talk of how things are supposedly changing at Saltergate, it would seem that the backroom staff are there because of their relationship with Richardson rather than any proven track record.

It's probably less interesting if you take into account that probably everyteam in the league scored more goals in the second half than the first lol

Yes but based on first-half "results" we finished ninth, while the second period saw us in fifth place.

the trobleis football is agame of two halfs and we dont put two good ones together often enough. It would be nice if we got stuck into teams in first half and had the luxury of playing some entertaining football in the second.

We didnt seem to have that many injuries last term though, perhaps this was down to work of the `fitness` coach?
A new hope.

I have said it before on here that the Club near a good clearout starting from Ricco all the way through the backroom staff, there are too many jobs for the boys as far as I'm concerned.
A new Boss should be able to decide who he needs / wants to bring this club success. I think the Youth set up needs a thorough overall and have a serious look at whether or not Dave Bentley is good enough for the job, because since we won the league we have had only Lowery who has broken into the ist team as a worthy regular.

Who exactly are you blaming for sending out a team not up for the first half of a game?

I think this has a lot to do with having no regular Reserve team matches. Our youngsters leave the Youth team and either go into the first team or go nowhere other than playing keepie up on the pitch at half time. Their development almost stops. In my opinion we either need to get these young players out on loan playing in the lower leagues, or re-establish the reserve team so they can continue to develop their skills so it isn't such a huge leap in standards to the First team.

It does doesn't it ... I don't admitting that I think some of the stuff on here is absolute rubbish, some is insightful, some is bitter ... it's all different people, different opinions and that's all healthy ... I do get a little weary of seeing the same stuff having to be brought up in EVERY thread though!

I think if you go back to the start of the thread I was wondering about, and asking questions about the backroom staff, something which I looked through other threads to see if had been discussed and it hadn't been.
Unfortunately, and as per usual, some folks want to turn every thread into a pro or anti Rico/ambition slanging match!
