Do we?

Fully expect Madden and Hobson to leave and signs that Colclough will too.

What does that leave us,

Dobra, Markanday, Mandeville, Duffy?

Not many is it?
Not sure why we can’t have both Coco and Duffy here, wingers are nearly always withdrawn mid second half, and in any event they are bound to be injured one time or another.
If all 3 of those above go, one presumes there will be more loan players coming in.

To be fair mate, after speaking with you at Matlock, I was told by somebody completely unrelated to you guys that DM had been at the stadium last week.

Obvious that we were interested but he’s opted for Barnsley, which you can’t blame him for.

I think it’s a combination of them being higher & us not being able to shift 1 or 2 out to finance it in the timeframe he wanted. He defo had a medical with us & agreed to sign.

Rather spend it on a centre half

I’m pleased the McGoldrick scenario has now been put to bed. Good luck to him at Barnsley.

Now we can move on with our own squad building. I agree with you. I think we are a LCB short. We have just 3 recognised CBs on the books and last season’s injury scenario suggests this simply is not enough. Yes, Naylor can play there too but I prefer to see him in defensive midfield or in a 3 at the back.

Looking at last nights highlights and thinking how long Butterfield has been on trial with us it should soon come to decision time as to whether or not we offer him a contract. If we do sign him then midfield seems to be sorted.

Again, judging from the highlights, young Elliott looks to be quite a tall lad and seemed to get involved quite well from a position behind Grigg. Bonis also looked as if he could play behind the main striker. Duffy played more central quite well according to some posters. Dobra, Markanday, Mandeville and Madden can all play that role too. So, should we be looking for cover for Grigg or just shuffle the pack according to requirements?

We appear to be up to our permitted 22 at present so it could be the case of one in one out from now on although any player ultimately left out of the squad will very likely move out eventually.

I've already nicknamed Dibley-Dias 'Kaka'.

Based on 1 viewing I'm very optimistic.
The goalie looks the part (he had nowt to do).
Whilst Oldaker had maxed his potential, Stirk clearly hasn't.
Bonis accurately described by Greenie.

Based on 1 viewing, I'd still have Gordon at LB. Lewis let his winger get a couple of crosses in but shone creatively. Really fine margins when it comes to selection.
Dylan Duffy thrived in a free role. He's big and strong enough to throw his weight about in both penalty areas so I'm hoping he'll unleash his potential.

Hemming
Sheckleford (Tanton not ready), Dunkley, Fadz, Gordon
Dibley-D, Stirk
Duffy, Dobra, Markanday
Grigg or Bonis

Although it’s too early to say, Stirk is for me is the key signing. He adds what DJ and MJ couldn’t give between them (no criticism of the latter as his age played a part).

My initial reaction was why move from Walsall but then I thought about their style of play. What a waste watching the ball fly over your head for 90m.

No frills player but he moves the ball quickly and definitely not afraid to play an incisive forward pass and quickly which was one of the more frustrating parts of our play last year.

Reads the game well too and breaks up the opposition play and on the face of it a real box to box player

Webb compared him to Batty in the post-match interview. A good comparison

Very happy McGoldrick isn’t joining. Get Madden gone and hopefully room for a decent young lad in on loan from a Championship or Premier League club, hopefully like Walsall did with Lowe last season.

Madden not going is the reason McGoldrick isn’t here, so it may prove harder than some think.

If he's half as good as Batty, he'll soon become a fans favourite.

He doesn’t strike me as the type to be happy sat in the stand collecting his wages. Especially at his age, he needs to be playing. Think someone will take him on but might have to wait until late in the window

Don't forget he also played 31 games for Mansfield, so he was very well acquainted with that style of play. It's obvious from Wiki that Birmingham knew he could play and persevered with him for a long time before reluctantly giving up on him.

I too am already labelling him as a key signing, which is probably a bit daft after such a short time. Perhaps the best yardstick is to consider how much better he is than Oldaker, of which I'm already convinced, rather than opining that he'll definitely keep an experienced Welsh International out of the team.
Get it on, bang the gong , get it on

Didn’t Danny Webb say Madden is in for another scan. If so, he is carrying an injury which will need to be cleared up before he returns to training and before any club signs him up.

I’m not disappointed about McGoldrick following in Dallas’s footsteps to Barnsley. I think we are covered in the No10 role and, more so, if Madden stays. Bonis looks suited to that role too.

CB is where we appear a little light on cover with 3, maybe, 4 over 30s vying for the 2 places in Cook’s system. However, there have been very few rumours regarding CBs.

That's the issue with Madden. Unless Danny Webb is telling fibs that leaves us a bit stuck. Because nobody is going to take an injured player and if we keep him around it's likely he AGAIN misses a full pre-season which leaves him unfit and unable to make an immediate impact.

I wonder if Harvey Araujo will turn up from Fulham for the new season?

Glad he’s gone League 1 rather than to a promotion rival down here. I think we need another 10 and another CB and then I’d be happy, depending on who leaves.

Silly me, cheers mate. I can't see him coming permanently because I've been told Fulham rate him highly so back to the drawing board.

I think this rule might just be for Premier League clubs loaning in players. Google says this:
In the EFL League Two, clubs can have a maximum of four players on loan from a single club, and only two of those players can be over the age of 23. Additionally, a League Two club can only have a maximum of five loan players in their matchday squad.

Also is it 22 players to be a named or has it been increased to 25 ( as in the Championship) as this figure seems to be mentioned in relation to all EFL clubs this season.?

Everything I can see online suggests we could have up to 4 from Fulham over the course of the season. It would only be 2 if they were over 23, which none of them are. Unless I’ve misunderstood! Araujo or someone in a similar mould would be ideal
