So the consensus is we should move on 34yr old Tom Naylor, a player who when in his correct position (which was very rare last season) makes the team tick, but we should sign 37yr old David McGoldrick and player who we can only go on performances for recent teams, and have no clue if he'll just turn out to be another CoG , MR, E-B, or most recently PM..

UNBELIEVABLE🤦‍♂️
all we are saying, is give us ...a goal, or 2+

Two different positions, for Naylor legs are abit more important in central midfield. McGoldrick is without a doubt a luxury player but for his output, a player you should accomodate at this level.

I'm not #NaylorOut, Cook sees his value as he was shoehorning him in the 3 behind ST for Playoffs but you have no idea what goes on in terms of guaranteed minutes

If we sign Butterfield then that takes up another place too. So, surely, there is going to be a few outgoings whether permanent or on loan deals.

However, I do think we might bring in a couple of U21s yet.

So 4 spaces if Madden & Coco go as expected? We're either carrying a smaller squad than last year or we're not done bringing in players yet.

Consensus? Not a single person has suggested any of that.

Date is a bit of a guess but based on the fact it was 1st Jan 2004 for last season so it makes sense. Bit of room for movement on top of the two if rumours are right of Madden and Colclough on the way out if not others. Triallist Butterfield would need to be named as well i think if we were to go anywhere with him. Also offers on the table to Donancien and Williams although i presume we wouldnt expect to see Williams on the pitch this side of the squad being named again post Xmas.

We've only got Elliot to sit on the bench if either Grigg or Bonis have to miss a match. One more needed for the striking pool.

Name a decent striker who will want to sign and be third choice when we only play one up top?

I would suspect any additional striking option is likely to be an U21 loanee if at all.

If they go they'll replaced you assume. The initial squad named a year ago left a space or two didn't it?

You’ve not included Rinaldo (3rd keeper) in the don’t need to been named.

I know it’s not ideal, but on a match day, having Naylor able to slot into central defence gives you flexibility if a red card/injury happens. Same as Mandy, this isn’t their best position but it means Cook has more leeway to alter the team in-game if circumstances dictate
If you tell the truth, you don't have to remember anything.

I don't get it.

There's no right or wrong answer when it comes to assessing a player because it's about opinions, but how peoples' thought processes work at times and the consistency of the same never ceases to amaze me.

Tom's been with us two years and he's made 89 appearances and scored 16 goals. In his first season, he picked up a champions medal as well as fans' & players' player of the year awards. In his second season with us, we finished 7th and secured a play off spot. His record at our club speaks for itself yet we have people saying that his legs have gone and they wouldn't be upset to see him leave. Probably the same people were calling for and pleased to see both McFadzean and Fleck retained for this season based on limited appearances and history with the club. Or for that matter those predicting promotion with a central defensive pairing of Dunkley and McFadzean.

If Tom's legs have gone, how does he compare to the likes of Fleck, McFadzean, Dunkley and Will Grigg?

A classy player who makes the hard stuff look easy.

If the folk saying his legs have gone are the usual crew of you know who then i suspect you are getting all wound up over nothing

I think Naylor playing both PSF at CB probably tells us his days in CM are over. If that saves us a few quid bringing in a RCB then I wouldn’t be against it.

Massive Naylor fan, but being with us for 2 years, making a good number of appearances and scoring a good number of goals doesn't mean his legs haven't gone (hate that phrase and I'm not really comfortable saying it's definitely the case for Naylor, but I daresay there's a reason Cook barely played him in his best position of CM last year and I'd speculate that it's primarily to do with him not being able to go box-to-box quite like he used to be able to).

Clubs tend to send youngsters out for game time not to be sitting in the stand. So my guess will be not at all. We'll go with Grigg and Bonis with Elliot as back up

I don't know but isn't it disrespectful to be asking the average Joe when you can ask Cook.
