Hahahahahaha!! Right good one!!!!

It’s so funny because it’s true! We never shoot from distance. Colclough, Dobra, Berry, Banks, Oldaker, King.. NONE of them shot from distance in the last few years under cook!

Sideways and backwards!! So good.

Odd that you’ve chosen that game out of the 46. Why not pick either of the games against the eventual champions where we won by 3 each time?

Not a player, but a fixture time transfer rumour. Bristol Rovers @ home on the 16th moved to 12:30 for Sky.

Confirmation that the Bristol Rovers game is on TV, handy as i'm away in France that day!

No other games for us in the first chunk which covers up to the 27th Sept. However the opening day game will be on Sky Sports+ at 3pm as they are all being shown that weekend.

I’m curious, who would be your ideal realistic choice to be manager?

A bloke at Kings Lynn I imagine would fit his bill.

Towns xGD was the 3rd highest in the division with +0.33. Only Walsall (+0.34) and Doncaster (0.44) were above us.

Our xG was also 3rd highest in the division with 1.53. Only County (1.54) and Doncaster (1.57) above us.

That centre forward for Athletico Madrid had the highest xG in the Club World Cup but didn’t score a single goal.

Yep cos he kept missing sitters, so those stats suggest we create plenty of goalscoring opportunities, we just don't take them often enough. A finishing problem rather than a creativity one.

Can I just say those stats, if true, are tremendous given we seemed to have half our squad out injured for half the season. What a job Paul Cook and the #BloatedBackroomStaff do.

Potential of this squad is scary, add in the additions of the summer and we're onto something special...

So how is the xG for a striker calculated? Getting in the right areas? Or receiving the ball in the right area? Genuine question because one could mean he’s missing sitters, the other could mean he’s doing his job but the delivery is poor.

How is a teams xG calculated? Same types of scenarios as above.

I honestly don’t know but suspect the xG stats could be widely open to interpretation.

Bit of light reading for you!!
https://datascientes...-math-behind-it

I think basically for a chance its rated on a scale of 0 to 1 based on how likely it was a goal would have been scored (1) down to 0 for a less clear cut chance. I presume based on that it means a high XG number means you are creating lots of good chances.

As I understand it, every shot attempted gets added to the xG figure. If Grigg has a 6 yard tap in with the keeper in no mans land, that might have an xG score of 0.96 meaning 96 times out of 100 you would expect to see a goal scored in that scenario.

Team xG is every shot attempted by a team during the match. A team xG of 1.53 means we should be scoring that many goals per game based on the quality of chances we are creating. In terms of individual players, the best ones tend to outscore their xG.

yep thats it in a nutshell. Between 0 and 1. Higher the number the more likely it is to score. Companies like Opta compile all the data

xG is a really good stat. I think a lot of people just brush it aside as ‘nonsense’ because it’s new.

A penalty is between 0.76 and 0.79 xG, meaning there’s a 76-79% chance of a goal.

The stat above stands us in really good stead.

As for the Atletico striker, that’s quite damning

Only in a very brief Club World Cup context, he scored 20 in 35 La Liga games last season which ain’t bad!
