Apart from when we've played them, I haven't watched many matches at Hillsborough, but one I do remember was against Leeds United around Christmas time in 1966.
We had relatives in that neck of the woods and they were all Wednesday, so we ended up joining them for the game. If I remember rightly, the match was a really boring 0-0 draw, and the freezing weather didn't help either, but the ground was well stocked with fans from both clubs.
It's only football that draws big crowds in all weathers, from old men riddled with arthritis to pre-school lads and lasses. These clubs need saving for future generations. I'd rather kids grow up with footballers as role-models than the local drug dealer.

As Spireites,we should be thinking there but for the grace of god go I.How close have we been,and not just once, to that situation?How did you feel at the time, I know how I felt, the club has been in my life since I was a three year old and there will be plenty of Wendyites with a similar story.We also know the impact on the community,and the real fans at the end of the day are the ones who bear the brunt.
Some comments on here I would not expect from real football fans ....,..?
On a different note, Hillsborough needed a lot of work when we were there for the FA cup replay and has never looked to have received much attention since from what I can see, I would imagine there is a lot of money required just for the ground.

Hillsborough is no longer fit for purpose. For a club of Sheffield Wednesday’s size and ambitions, a modern, purpose-built stadium should have been seriously considered by now. The current ground is deteriorating, located in a high flood-risk area, and even includes obstructed views in parts of the Kop stand due to supporting posts, it's far from ideal.

Unfortunately for Wednesday, as ‘massive’ as they are, the club needs to take several steps back in order to move forward. Managing expectations, both internally and among fans, is crucial. There’s a sense of entitlement that doesn't reflect the club’s current reality. They haven’t been able to compete financially for top-level players for years.

It’s a familiar story: a promising squad with momentum, followed by the sale of key assets, only to be replaced by substandard signings. It’s a cycle that’s hard to break without structural change and long-term planning.

If Thais are anything like the Japanese, he certainly won't want to lose face by selling up. I do hope he gives his head a wobble and sells the club on rather quickly for the sake of the fans.

I have family around the Sheffield area and always found that a few Wednesday fans always had the attitude that they are untouchable financially they could do what they wanted . Don't wish them any harm would never want any club to fold but for the grace of god . Luckily we have brilliant owners but we didn't

My brother is a ST holder, goes home and away, every game, they are a bigger club with delusions of grandeur but they are football fans just like us

Really hope it turns out ok for them

Agree, wishing clubs to go bust is falling to the same levels of the cockwombles over the M1 whose fans post such things about us on a regular basis.

I work with Wednesday fans as well and they are generally not a bad bunch I find.

As much as I thoroughly enjoyed their relegation from the premier league to scenes of crying fans and Roy Orbison's crying playing in the background, I don't want to see them go under and I don't for a minute think they will.

Tough times ahead but they'll get through it.

Perhaps the comedy duo of David and Ashley will come steaming in to save the day. 😉
