Mansfield and Rotherham are our main rivals. Both Sheffield clubs don’t see us as a rival, and unless we were to be in the same division long term it won’t change.

Doncaster, Barnsley, Burton, Derby and both the Nottingham clubs aren’t rivals and probably never will be.

I think there was a rivalry building with Stockport, but this dampened when they went up a few years back.

It wasn't just a one way rivalry in the late 70s and early 80s believe me !In 79/80 we were better than both of them and they hated that , Wednesday went up in 3rd that season 1 point above us but we blew it ourselves losing at Millwall and Chester right at the death.

Those days are long gone.

Not necessarily given what's happening at Hillsborough at the moment , we could be in the same league again sooner than we think and it's not that long ago that the Blades were in the 3rd tier.

I couldn't believe my eyes at the cricket at Queen's Park earlier. Some scruffy 80s throwback in stonewashed jeans and seemingly friendless strolling around the place wearing an ugly yellow shirt. What would go through your mind?

Well, it's perfectly possible that one of these particularly weird folk from our eastern fringes would follow Derbyshire cricket rather than Notts, but why for the love of God would you come wearing that other than to invite abuse?

You'd have been wearing stonewashed cut-off jeans in these muggy climes.

We'd already blown it by the time we played at Millwall on the last day, hence "only 4 on the special" me being one of them

I was also one of the few that was booked on the special. Embarrassing when it was cancelled, maybe too many believed the Panorama doc on Millwall. If we'd have won that game we'd have gone up
It wasn't the last game as we beat Sheff Yoo and Exeter afterwards and missed out by one point to Wednesday. Following season we won 2-0 at Millwall just to rub it in.

I've checked, you're right I'm conflating the two seasons

Chesterfield 6/4 to be promoted
Mansfield 11/4 to be relegated

Probably won’t ever play them again in the league

They reckon they’ll turn up here , give us a lesson in why we are so far apart in quality and bid us farewell for a long time. That’s the general feeling on their board anyway. Delusion is very strong on there.

All fans spout the same about their closest rivals, us included. Would be great to progress in the competition at their expense.

Good, that’s two more years of turgid dross for them to endure!
