Try rewording it like this.
He's been offered a contract by the club. He's in PC's plans for the season.
The contract is on the table but he wants to prove to himself he is cabable of fulfilling that contract before he signs it.

I don’t think the club would offer a contract to someone that has to prove his fitness.
I think it more likely that there is something there for him should he prove it in pre season.

Don’t know why people are so keen to get rid of Madden. A fully fit Madden is a great player, last season was disrupted by injury and we haven’t seen the best of him yet.

Exactly Madden would walk into any league two side and several in league one. Sadly due to injury and i think him not really fitting into our system so far its not worked out but im more than happy for him to be here.

Agree, a quality player doesn’t just lose it overnight. His goals per chances ratio would still have been pretty solid last season. It was the injury mostly, that screwed his season up.

That's the conundrum for me. Even when fit, where does he feature in our system?

Think it’s to do with his injury record with us and he seemed to have a tiff with cook at the end of last season. I’d like to keep him if his relationship with cook can be mended. Him grigg and the potential arrival of Bonis looks a decent set of strikers.

I think it’s safe to assume that the plan was for Madden to play behind Grigg and make late runs into the box and pick up scraps, something akin to Jay O’Shea.
Unfortunately due to the injury situation it never really got tested in matches and we don’t really know if it worked in training sessions.
I don’t know if there was a bust up with PC but I suspect it’s a case of 2 plus 2 but it’s understandable for Madden to get frustrated at the lack of playing time once fit.
There is a case for giving the ball another kick but equally you could accept that Madden doesn’t fit in with the team and it’s best to cut your losses

I still think he has something to offer to the team.

Didn’t Madden get injured last preseason? Against Sheff United? Pretty bad calf injury if I remember correctly. From that moment on he was playing catch-up and he never quite caught up. Undoubtedly a quality player at this level and he did show his finishing prowess a few times last season. If he can get through preseason in good shape and stay fit there is no reason he can’t contribute this coming season.

Hi missed a couple of absolute sitters as well!

He’s past his sell by date IMO and seems to be struggling injury wise.

At his age he needs to be playing regularly and I’m not sure he’s going to get enough game time.
