This coming season's squad build up reminds me of Arthur Cox's team building in prep for the 1979/80 season. Alan Birch, Ridley, Bill Green, John Turner, followed by Phil Bonnyman, John Stirk,Crawford etc all ready to challenge for promotion to the old League 2 (Championship). What a team Cox built played some of the best football ever witnessed at Saltergate. As it was, it wasn't meant to be back then....this season we have the backing to go one better and do it. We're in for an exciting season!

Correct me if I’m wrong..7 players out either released or out of contract?
4 new signings…assume it’s going to be a right back, centre half & striker to further join the ranks?

What? Jack was nearly 38 when he started his last season. Only Kyle is anywhere near that, and none are centre forwards.

Was he really?? I had it in my head he was about 34. Still think he won't play the 34+s week in week out, Saturday/Tuesday (unless we get battered by injuries again).
Here we go again!

Now that brought back some memories. I was in the Youth Team and Reserves at that time and spent lots of time round that group.
Cox was an absolute top bloke to work around he was incredibly inspirational similar to Cookie today. I was lucky enough to be given an old pair of his boots he was that kind of guy, total legend.

Was going to say I think they'll look to offload a couple before any more announcements. My Guess is they're looking to move Paddy on, bit of an O'Grady vibe signing really, although to be fair he's at least looked okay and has scored a bit

Really, in an injury ridden squad he’s hardly set the world on fire. Grigg out injured for a spell was the ideal opportunity. Honestly can’t remember him starting many times and for the majority of the season he never made the match day squad. He’ll do the same type of job this season because there will be better options signed or loaned in. We’ve been clearing the decks this time and there are a few twists and turns ahead for the group who have been offered deals.

I think we are still keeping our powder dry for the January window.
God I hate this league.

Another one off the list. Four to go:

Goalkeeper
Right Back
Central Defender
Forward

One more off the list. Three to go.

Right Back
Central Defender
Forward

Of course the easy bit is highlighting the areas where we need to improve. The hard bit is finding players for those positions who are, and will prove to be, better than what we already have. I think all of the players that we have signed to date will go straight into the starting 11 and it will be up to them to keep their shirt.

Looking forward to seeing how it all plays out and what we look like come August.

Why would we be keeping out powder dry for a window where half the season has gone, we are limited to players aren't available unless for inflated fees, loanees and players out of contract for a good reason. January should be reserved for filling gaps in the squad or improvement tweaks. I'm sure the Kirks would love to have a reserve ready for those circumstances and I suspect they will.

That’s exactly the opposite of what we are doing.

Not we’re not, we’re doing exactly what we did after the Wembley defeat, we’re assembling a squad right at the onset of the season to be up there challenging from the word go. We attempted to do the same last year but due to injuries we had to utilise the Jan window to varying degrees of success much more than we planned.
Why on earth would you keep your powder dry until such a time that a top three place might be out of reach even with using the bulk of your investment then?
Mind boggling post mate!

All the cats out the bag now from the original 4

Lad from Netherlands sounds like it’s being stalled on agreeing a fee
McGoldrick won’t be followed up for another few weeks
Canadian CB and Konate other names mentioned but seemed to have gone quiet.

Wonder if any signings will come without rumour like Lewis

Nathan Lowe is still doing the rounds. Forge FC are due to play this weekend so let’s see if the Canadian CB Malik plays

Why? Not a chance we are doing that! Why would you hang on til January when you could be way off the pace and generally it’s harder to get decent players in then, as last season proved, and more expensive.

That’s top of the nonsense you’ve posted.

He’s either going to be involved with Stoke or league one bound. Unless we offer a deal they can’t turn down then they’ll want to see him playing higher up than league two.

On Lowe? Just opinion. After his success last season I can’t see how another league two move is part of his development unless a financial deal is too good to turn down.

I think there is more chance of me getting a deal than us signing Lowe but if we did, the Walsall headloss would be quite spectacular.

There’s no good reason for either Lowe or Stoke for him to be with us or anyone else in L2 next year. Its a non-starter

Sounds like Hudders and Stockport are top of the queue anyway, if he is let out
