So would you rather have a new right back over that lot or a left back covering for Gordon?

I think Duffy covers Gordon to a certain extent

I’d have a Tanton as RB, Sparkes, Metcalfe back, a new goalie, a pacy CB , Stirk, and a proven goal scorer

You see the problem here don’t you? We’ve taken the option on VDV so of Donacien signs there’s simply no room for another RB

This incredible thing called a "loan" exists. Players can be "loaned" out to other clubs who cover either a portion or all of said player's wages.

Tanton was made of paper.
Sparkes is going to Bristol Rovers.
We're getting Hemming for GK.
We're getting Stirk.
We're looking at the irish striker.
Doubt we'll sign a CB as we have Fadz and Dunks, but I wouldn't mind a pacy option there, maybe a loan?
Doubt we'll get Metcalfe back, but I wouldn't be against it.

Taking the option on VDC doesn't mean he'll 100% be here. Sales, Loans, Releases happen.

Sheckleford was getting better when he got injured, but I'll agree that Campbell is very much, work in progress and will, most likely, be loaned out, barring injuries .

I'd take Campbell over Sheckleford, fitness permitting, and Donacien above both if his balsawood legs can handle it. I think VDC has more potential to make it in this league than Sheckleford. Perhaps his good showing against Crewe, where the whole team were on fire, is colouring my perception.

We have Mandy who can cover there too, though I wonder if Mandy could do well as a holding midfielder given his energy and work rate.

Surely we're not going to sign another right back having retained so many?

Sheckleford really let himself down in the Walsall game (league away), he switched off completely and was heavily at fault for some of the goals. I remember Cook trying to protect him at the time, but you could tell he was fuming underneath. I don’t think Sheckleford’s featured since, has he?

Unfortunately, I can see him ending up back in non-league. As it stands, he just doesn’t seem to offer the level of quality or consistency Cook is demanding from this squad.

Exactly that- it's difficult to forget how unprofessional Sheckleford was in that moment. I think he did play after that though, once or twice? Edit- see this has been answered above- he did. Ta

We need to keep Mandy as far away as possible from right back. He always seems to get caught out of position but by god does he get back and put a good tackle in.
Let's get a purpose made right back and let them do the defending, leaving Mandy to do what he does best and create.
Life goes on. Whatever happens.

Don’t underestimate the part the fans played.
God I hate this league.

For his first couple of seasons Mandeville was powder puff but nowadays he uses his physical presence and fitness well, which is why I wonder (as others have) if he might make a good Metcalfe-type deep-lying midfielder, getting a foot in when needed but providing legs where Fleck or Naylor might lack them alongside.
These go to eleven.

We must be watching a different player Because Shecks hasn't got pace can't beat a man with skill and is very limited going forward apart from one cross against Watford.

I’m watching the same player as Rodders is. He is adequatel at this level and if we don’t sign Donacian he’ll be first choice as things stand.

Poor as Sheckleford was at Walsall (especially that 3rd goal) he hadn’t been frozen out as was suggested. Cook actually blamed the other defenders for continually passing to him under pressure and he had a point. Why on earth thy didn’t try the other side (Sparkes I think) is a mystery.

Have WE taken the option on VDC or has VDC taken the option within the contract he signed last year?

I would have a fully fit Tanton over all of them but whether or not that is an option will be between the player, Fulham and CFC.

Sparkes looks like moving closer to home and Bristol bound.

I would certainly like Metcalfe to return and he could form a more energetic “two” with the heavily rumoured Stirk.

Obviously, a new keeper is required but so is one who can provide adequate competition and that is why I think Boot ideally stays.

The interesting one is the “proven goalscorer”. We have two but both are ageing and seem to be becoming more injury prone. To be “proven” suggests “experienced” and “experienced” suggests “aged” but I would prefer “younger” and the potential to be developed into a “saleable asset” particularly whilst we still have Grigg and Madden.

Would be a strange career move on his behalf coming here? They weren’t far off being promoted to the Eredivisie and he played most of their games

Is that division massively stronger/better paid than top end League Two? Probably not much in it. He might want to return 'home' and fancies giving it a crack in England.
