Think that is when it stops being a debate and defeats the object of a forum?

That’s crazy if they’re really spending that much on a player for League Two. You’d have to think the move is financially motivated, dropping from a big club like Bolton to MK Dons raises some questions.

To be fair, MK do have a Championship level stadium, arguably built well beyond their means at the time. I believe it was originally intended to double as a concert venue. It’s a great stadium, just rarely more than a quarter full for football.

Maybe this is finally their time!

I've been to a gig there, as stadiums go it's pretty good for music. Problem is the area around it (Bletchley) is not adequate for that many people selling out a venue. Hardly any of whom are from there or MK.

Talk of social media of wages around £10k\£12k a week being paid!

Even if they do well i cant see MK Dons getting big crowds, just helps currently that they have new owners willing to chuck some money at it and made a few quid on sales recently.

There's a lot of people live there but the demographic is such that people generally support other clubs. In time, if they were successful they could fill the place but they've been trying to do that for a while now.

Stems from the fact it's a new town built in the 70's and 80's. Everyone moving there came from other parts of the country and their allegiance lay from whence they came. A mate of mine moved there in 1982 and subsequently bought his two kids up as Town fans, as did many others who moved to the area. Most post war new towns don't even have a professional club. The ones that do, MK, Stevenage, Crawley etc are all poorly supported for the same reason. It may take a couple more generations for them to get the local support.

I'm sure I've just seen Sparkes down at Tesco, but, if so, both Russell and Ron Mael are looking their age 😀.

Maguire got extra credit from fans for being a local lad, had he not been his career at Town would be seen very differently by most (ie why did we keep someone who was never a first team regular for so long!)

He could do a job at left back or centre back but only really looked comfortable in a back three, his move away and subsequent transfer were good for him and allowed him to play in his best position. However, he wasn’t a regular at MK last season and probably will not fit into their plans going forward with the calibre of player they are signing.

To say Grimes or Maguire is better is a little simplistic, Grimes is a better centre back in a 4 at the back system, Maguire probably edges it if playing 3 at the back.

In reality, it’s horses for courses.

Cook likes to play a back 4 and, I agree with you, Maguire is better on the left of a back 3. He struggles more if he is only one of two CBs.

Having said that I felt he was reasonably capable as a defensive midfielder and could potentially score a goal or two from set pieces.

We have now moved on and Cook needs to sign players that suit his system better than both Loz and some of the players we have retained.

Good points, but I would say that most central defenders can potentially score a goal or two from set pieces 😀
