Unless the penalty taker telegraphs it or takes a poor one (so the keeper can adjust to save it) there is no way the keeper knows which way the penalty taker is going to go. Absolutely guess work/luck.
I've always said regarding taking a penalty would be to practice sticking it into the 'top bin' of tbe goal as imo, that is probably the only place it would be impossible for the keeper to reach with a standing start and reaction time

Paul Cooper saved 8 out of 10 penalties for Ipswich in 79/80. A record. And this was before keepers could move their feet before the kick was taken.
His secret?
“My philosophy was to get the taker to place the ball where I wanted it to go and you have to show the opposing taker that you’re very confident”

So not just luck.

So if the keeper did a 'Derren Brown', but the taker decided against it at the last second..
It's all second, third guessing that it could even fly over the bar

Muggleton was a top penalty save master from what I remember when he first came here

Cooper saved over 50 penalties in his career. What a lucky bar steward.

No idea what his success rate was but Mike Pollitt seemed to save most taken against him. Perhaps that's just my memory and time playing tricks.

For some of us yes, although there’s been a lot of support on here for Boot being our first choice keeper next season.

It's less of an issue than the other positions (for me) but would improve if I could (obviously).
