I've always said regarding taking a penalty would be to practice sticking it into the 'top bin' of tbe goal as imo, that is probably the only place it would be impossible for the keeper to reach with a standing start and reaction time

Paul Cooper saved 8 out of 10 penalties for Ipswich in 79/80. A record. And this was before keepers could move their feet before the kick was taken.
His secret?

It's all second, third guessing that it could even fly over the bar

Cooper saved over 50 penalties in his career. What a lucky bar steward.

No idea what his success rate was but Mike Pollitt seemed to save most taken against him. Perhaps that's just my memory and time playing tricks.

With the amount of analysis in the game these days its not all guess work and luck. See keepers all the time these days with notes on takers for shootouts and then when asked about it after say they had done their homework. Regular takers will always have a preferred way of doing it.

He saved pens in the first two pre-season games against SW & Derby (both at home) but I think he conceded all 6 taken against him in the League, all away from home, Exeter, Dale, Lincoln, Orient, Cardiff, Hull, so 100% at Saltergate, 0% on the road! Happy to be corrected.

Soccerbase shows a similar story for his career further up the ladder. However he is known for saving a penalty from Arsenal’s Reyes in the semi final of the Carling Cup playing for Wigan in 2006.

If a regular penalty taker puts it in the same corner every time, then fair enough.
The 'specialist' penalty taker in the team should be able to 'mix it up' which then analysis goes out the window and luck for the keeper come into play.
I'm my penalty taker put it bottom left every time, he wouldn't be my penalty taker much longer!

Think the analysis is probably a bit more than where they put it but looking for tells as to what they will do, which side they favour etc etc.

Paul Cooper was one of those goalkeepers who graced English football at a time when any keeper in the whole four divisions wouldn't have let their national team down, but not many could put their hand to collecting failed penalty scalps the way he did.
Some of the best penalty takers in the country failed against the man, so was it luck, down to reading the player facing him, or pure skill? I think it was a mix of skill, and getting into the takers head. Great goalkeeper even if you forget his penalty saves, and if you talk to any Ipswich fan from nine to ninety, they'll all call him a legend.
