Same as when a trigger is in place in the players favour, if they play x amount of games it can trigger an extension, but the player doesn't have to sign if they don't want but the club must offer it.

The words from the club re the retained list says:
Contract option triggered: Ryan Colclough, Vontae Daley-Campbell, Lewis Gordon, Jamie Grimes, Liam Jessop & Ashton Rinaldo.
That to me says it’s our option and they are all currently signed up for the next season.

This.
It's all about what was agreed at the time of signing.
Grimes?
Agree with the 'worthwhile squad player on a (relatively) modest salary' assessment.
In fact it's a credit to both him and the Club he's happy to stay knowing those terms...

I’m convinced that him playing 60+ minutes in Chris Bashams testimonial 24 hours after the Morecambe game did for him.
I know it wasn’t a “proper” game but by all accounts was played at a decent pace and wasn’t just a leisurely kick about.
Still think he could be a great asset with a proper pre season in him and a decent run of games.

In the resent DT article, it says Elliot, Jessop and Rinaldo are all being added to the squad, so that suggests to me that the club have triggered the option on the youngsters

I think this is a by-product of close season - speculation, disagreements, personal attacks from posters on each other, player opinions etc - completely different from the last 9 months??

I think everyone needs to write off last season as we were completely hammered with injuries so we could never really play our best team on a longish run of games
We can’t really judge people and write them off before they’ve even had a good length of game time

He did it during the post xmas spell when we changed to more of a 4-1-4-1 formation and we put a bit of a run together despite numerous injuries.

Is this the same Madden who was having one to one training with Ben Partridge in JD Gym the day before the 2nd leg at Walsall?
Now if it was me and he was ‘left to rot’ I wouldn’t be focusing any individual physio time towards him.
People argue in football, shows passion and he won’t be the first or last player to get ‘aggy’ with Cookie. Maybe he felt he could have made a difference in the game and was angry he wasn’t selected to come onto the field? Jesus the amount of fans who get mardy regarding timings of Paul Cook subs, so you can be sure the players get frustrated as well
