This club means a lot to him and he has served us really well.

You can see how much the club means to him.

I'm guessing our offer wasn't anything near what York could offer in terms of contract length, minutes on the pitch or wages. At his age and nearing the end of his career, it had to be the right decision for him.

Good servant for the club, wish him well.

Don't think I've ever seen a footballer on film nearly breaking down cos he's leaving a club. Top man. I think I saw some of his best football last season.

Most fans I've chatted to have a soft spot for Ollie Banks, but I've heard others who pull him to bits. I've said it before that, for me, Ollie is the lower league Glenn Hoddle. He has skill in abundance and I, amongst many others are sorry to see him go.
In the two spells he's been with us, I've thoroughly enjoyed watching him play and I hope that we see him back at the club when he gets the time.
York have got themselves a very decent player, but for us to move up a level we couldn't hope to compete with the deal he's got by leaving.
Good luck Ollie and I hope you're back in league two after next season.

Good to see how much it means to him. Nothing against York as they're a good club but he's made a sensible financial decision for him and his family and he'll always be welcome in the town and the club in the future.

Top bloke, we had a meal at the club once and had a friend over from Australia whose son came over for his 18th birthday to watch town for the first time ( dad from chesterfield) banks was mom and we asked him to sign the shirt , he went downstairs and got the whole team to do it, a fantastic gesture of kindness
ITS NOT THE WINNING,ITS THE TAKING APART

Banks top of League Two stats for accurate long balls per 90 minutes- at 6.7.
Second…. Oldaker at 5.3 per 90. 5th- Jamie Grimes at 4.7. Although the overall success rate of those three varies somewhat.

What a brilliant interview. Someone who came back in an hour of need to help get us back where we belong, and what a contribution he made in doing so. Club legend in my eyes when you consider he’s a 2 times title winner.

Appreciate Ollie being given the chance to say a proper goodbye, good on the club and the media team for doing this.

He’s certainly one of those ex players that will get a warm welcome whenever he’s back at the SMH whether it’s playing or visiting.

Pre the Trust/Kirks' takeover and Cookie's return in 2022, we spent far too many seasons witnessing people (officials, managers and players) pass through the club who shouldn't have been anywhere near it. In fact, the majority of them we were desperate to see the back of.

It's an odd feeling watching Ollie's interview, mainly because, in recent years, it has been rare for us to say goodbye to a player with such a long association with the club — someone who has contributed significantly to our success and who also happens to be a decent person

I think it's probably fair to say that if Ollie's worth to us over the next 24 to 36 months was going to be greater than his worth to York, then he wouldn't be leaving.

The very best of luck, Ollie, and thank you.

EDIT - I forgot to say, full marks to the club and Ollie for doing the interview as his contribution deserved more recognition than a paragraph in a press release.

Yes, Ollie Banks certainly can stroke the ball about sweetly. I don't know who we're going to bring in to replace him, but Paul Cook must have got someone special lined up.

Fantastic interview. He genuinely cares for the club. Thank you for your time at Chesterfield Ollie and all the best for the future. I for one will be keeping an eye on York’s results and hopefully you can play a big part in getting them back into the football league.

Such a refreshing change seeing players depart the club in this way rather than us chasing them out of the door.

Ollie Banks has been a really good player for Chesterfield Football Club. Thank you Ollie.
