I would like to think we're not daft enough to throw 150+k at a 30 yr old forward, no potential sell on value in that, so no point in the initial outlay.
There will be plenty of forwards further up the pyramid that have been released and are available for free

I'm coming around to the idea. He's scored 30 goals+ a season for the last few years and looks like he has an eye for a pass too.

His age doesn't scream good investment but if his wages are lower than a Grigg or Naylor I imagine the cost over 3 years could be similar.

We haven't had a 20 a goal striker since Kabby and although Cook teams tend to share them around, we were at our best when Doyle was finishing every chance he looked at.

I thought Grigg was a 20 goal striker for us in the 23/24 season?

If he played a major part in getting us promoted next season that alone would justify the purchase

Not all players are going to be "investments". When Grigg signed did we worry about his sell on value? Naylor? Dunkley? I seem to remember that most people were joyful when we signed Madden. We need somebody who can get in behind defences, ruffle the feathers of defenders and score goals, this bloke looks like he could be the answer. Regardless of how much he costs the club, if he's going to end up delivering another dimension to the team and Cooky is willing to pursue him then that should be the end of the "sell on" debate.
Most people on this forum have gone from being supporters to managers and now financial advisors. It's football and when all is said and done all we should crave for is success by means of winning promotions and winning trophies, let the Kirk's worry about spending money on players after all, they are the ones who hold the purse strings.

I'm 99.9% sure that we won more ppg in the 2014-15 season after Eoin left.

I don't agree. Sorry. We nearly lost our club, and getting to see them every fortnight is far more important than winning L2 and going bankrupt 3 years later.

Haven’t the club recently declared our strategy will be towards a development /business ?

Let’s wait and see who accepts their offers this season, I assume the squad size will reduce this time. Our squad will stifle development to a degree unless we have a disastrous injury run.

It's not often that we disagree and without wishing to argue DerbySpireite's view, it's not about trusting people, it's about what if.

Thanks to Phil, we've managed to sustain losses of £5.5M from 2022 to 2024 in addition to another substantial loss last season. If Phil wasn't involved, how long can we sustain those losses for and how quickly can we restructure the wage bill should we need to? That's the point.

For obvious reasons, it should be a pertinent consideration for the entire Board of Directors, more so than fans posting on a messageboard.

I 100% trust Phil ans Ash to keep on underwriting our losses. I'm just not comfortable with the Club being so heavily reliant on them, and for the foreseeable future. I do get you though.

100% agree with you about being in it for success. However, success is relative as well as absolute. Also, I'd far sooner we achieve long-term success through having invested in the Academy, than through short-term big money signings. In truth, we're both right, and both wrong. It's about finding the right balance. One begats the other.

The difference with Girgg, Dunkley and Naylor is that they were free transfers, so we weren’t investing a substantial signing fee into them
