Excellent piece and very true. There aren't many football managers with Paul Cook's class. Long may he reign as our manager.

the swindon advertiser seem to be very excited about his arrival:

The 26-year-old was an all-action midfielder for Chesterfield last season, ranking in the 96th percentile in League Two for completed passes per 90 amongst midfielders and also in the 91st percentile for percentage of duels won. Oldaker is also known to be a free-kick specialist.

Do they actually know that this all action midfielder has nicked Ray Wilkins nickname from him, plus he spends more time going backwards than the British Army did in 1940.
I like Oldaker, but this year he's not covered himself in glory to be fair.

A very strange similie to use, especially since the army subsequently won the war by a country mile! Chose your comparisons more carefully and don’t be so disrespectful of those who went “backwards”.

"Every conversation I've had with Ian Holloway has really resonated with the style of football I want to play..."

Lethargic and negative?

Some strange journalistic reporting on this move it seems, BBC stating Swindon town sign former chesterfield captain... Did I miss this? Was he handed the armbands once in an fa trophy game or something

I can't wait to know about this "British Army going backwards in 1940".

Do enlighten us please.

Oldaker did ok for us and blessed us with some nice goals.

So he's the 11th player to be leaving the club this week. Good luck to him, he scored one of the best CFC goals I have ever witnessed down at Bromley. I hope he does well, in fact I am sure he will.

really decent bloke, lots of skill, will do fantastic for york and he leaves with his head held high ,won me over as in his first spell he lacked a bit of something but 2nd time round he was more accomplished albeit at a slighyly lower level, one of a
very few players to get consecutive man of the match awards and i think i made him man of the match 4 times in a row he was unplayable in a spell of 8 or 9 games last year.certainly the right time for him to go though and good luck .
ITS NOT THE WINNING,ITS THE TAKING APART

It'll be the contract length that would be the stumbling block in my opinion.
