just had a conversation about away allocation at work with a county fan. home grounds should be for home fans. good to see the days of 2500 away fans packing the away end has come to an end. leads to further trouble and presumably extra police costs. only thing I would ask for is for a further barrier to be put between home and away fans in the east stand. the mindless banging of the metal separation door is really annoying!

Even less trouble and cost if we just played behind closed doors and charged everyone £25 a stream. I quite enjoyed the Covid season with all those cutouts behind the south stand.

Out of interest, if the Club did make the middle sections of the East Stand subject to such occassional relocations for 26-27 season, would you

1. still buy a season ticket?
2. if so, would you keep it where it is?

I don't think we need to go down that route by the way. ATM. However, it might make commercial sense one day.

Have you ever been in the East Stand? Your question is totally irrelevant as the configuration of the East Stand simply would not be able to facilitate additional away fans due to the separation barrier that is already in place.
The match day experience under the East Stand is sub optimal as it already is. Too many people sharing too few facilities.

I never said anything about the existing configuration. If I did. I apologise.

I know absolutely nothing about what could be re-designed, structurally, or the costs, and the ROI year, of doing so. However, I bet someone in the Club does.

Re read the post, I never suggested folk had preference for tickets or repeated rumours. I said if that did happen it was out of order.
I await your retraction.

Apologies is was in fact meant to reply to an earlier post.
Having spoken to Paul the Barrel didn't get any tickets. So my point stands.

I heard that only 100 tickets went on sale and rest went to mates of them at the club and they all get them for free and none have ever been to an away game in their life!

I also think we should give half the kop to away fans to get a better atmosphere and maximise revenue!

State of this thread!

How bizarre.
I'm working on the assumption you go to games? If so where do you sit? Are you a season ticket holder and how long have you held it in the new ground?

Yes I'm a long-standing season ticket holder, but I'm in S1. So what's "bizarre"?

Plenty of [new] grounds get design tweaks, or not, based upon thought through, costed, business cases.

I reckon we'll be in L1 within the next 3 seasons, with the intention of stabilising our position.

I suspect that we'd do something with the NE corner to accommodate more away fans, for the big games, whilst recovering E2 for more home fans. That'll certainly need some re-design of the East stand.

All I'm really saying, I suppose, is that change is inevitable, incremental, and sometimes painful for a minority.

so how would you feel if someone suggested sticking a few thousand away fans in the south stand then? What's bizarre is the actual thought it might be a reasonable idea?

If someone suggested it, I'd listen to their rationale, rather than dismissing it because of my nimbyism.

A few thoughts, if the ground is extended I’m sure the North stand would be first choice to be made bigger as increasing the South stand will block out more sunlight to the pitch so if this happens it’s possible the south stand could be used for away fans so how would fans in the South stand feel about relocating

Absolutely no problem with me. We saw on Sunday how the sun setting was a problem for our players in the 2nd half.

Arsenal and Wolves famously have North Banks. I bet quite a few others do too.

The inconvenience of having to wear sunglasses, more often, is well worth the payback.

It'd be interesting to learn what the players themselves, think.

Furthermore, we probably now regularly have more in the North Stand than we had in the South Stand just a few years ago.

Even if we extended the North Stand, I'd simply give the away fans the adjacent section of it, when demand requires (3-6 games a season)

Why is it good to see the end of away fans packing out away ends? Surely that will kill the atmosphere. It's only last season and the 5 before it when we were all moaning about 20 fans turning up from Maidenhead. If a ground is big enough to accommodate lots of away fans without it impacting the home support bring it on I say.

I agree why do we have to accommodate9 loads away fans when we can fill the stands ourselves?
Also as an East Stand regular I've no desire to be moved to accommodate the odd large away following.
Howls of protest now?

That's the issue. It isn't without expansion.

if the ground develops & shading/sunlight affects the pitch etc etc....if it was frozen, be impossible to thaw in a short period...next thing would be undersoil heating to factor in

I think it will only be a matter of time, if the continued growth of the fanbase keeps increasing, that expansion becomes a serious topic.

Theoretically, if the corners in South East/west were filled in, how many more would it accommodate? 1,000 in each corner?

I think realistically you will need to have 90% attendance over a good few seasons and be top half of league one to be considering an expansion of the stadium. Then what happens if/when that happens? Can we still have to north stand open when we build it up (cos thats whats been mentioned), or do we lose 2000 seats for some months? Or can it be knocked up in preseason?

It's certainly an interesting talking point.
Here we go again!
