Yet Palmers only headed goal this season went straight into roof of the net.
Since when did all scored headers be headed downwards?
Naylors task would have been far easier was he at the far post or the cross come from much nearer the goal line.
Remember Jamie Hewitt’s last minute goal at Old Trafford? Roof of the net.

By no measurable metric did Jamie Hewitt's header hit the roof of the net.

It's hardly controversial, it's standard coaching and always has been. At the most obvious level it means the 'keeper has further to travel to reach the ball.
Not sure what you're trying to say.

Pity Pattison didn’t direct Bradford’s third goal downwards rather than to the top corner. Boot might have had a chance of saving it.
I’m saying it’s far too simplistic to say Naylor could have directed a header downwards from 12 yards out and, when headed goals are scored every which way, it’s simplistic to say headers should always be directed downwards.

Nor was it directed downwards.

The only way we win is if we are as unpredictable as they are predictable, which means scrapping playing 4231 for this game , if you keep playing the same way hoping for a different result then your pretty foolish, we have not beaten them in 3 and they are not that good

don't know if you recall but in the home game against walsall back in october there was a quadruple substitution midway through the second half where we just chucked loads of attacking players on, completely bamboozeld them having been contained by them until that point, we were almost unplayable in that period, remember at the time thinking how high risk it was, banks seemed to be playing at the back on his own just pulling the strings with an array of attacking players going at them, it was fantastic and we got oursleves back in the game. could you do that from the off? not sure but i agree we need to go in a different direction on friday or they will just contain us again.

It's a one off game where the overall winner goes to Wembley.
We created chances but fluffed the finishes.
I'd probably start as a normal line up but be a bit more on the front foot but then I agree that partway through - if we are still chasing the game - go full out attack.
It's an all or nothing but shouldn't leave it to late to try to win the game

This is the thing, we can be much more attacking playing the formation we do. On Sunday there was a lack of intensity, we were far from our best pressing them and moving the ball into the attacking thirds. Far too many misplaced passes, mis controlled passes. Fadz was looking on a number of occasions for the diagonal cross field ball but Walsall stifled that and any other attempts to get forward with a much better press than ours.

We can do it, we've seen it happen, but the story of our season is that we've been far too inconsistent with it. Fingers crossed with it being last chance saloon Friday, everyone is much more up for it, but it's no good going all out attack from the first minute as if they hit us on a break and get the next goal, the ties pretty much over.

Game management is crucial, protect our gaol while trying to get into theirs, and as the game goes on and we are still chasing throw more and more at it, probably going to need earlier subs. If we're still behind on 70 minutes and Grigg, Pepple, Madden and Dobra aren't all on the pitch together it'll be disappointing.

Sadly he had an acrimonious split from his family at an early age but found friendship with his gang of Merry Men.

On average we score plenty of goals. What we need is to start with players on the field who can keep a clean sheet. I'd drop Michael and Colclough to the bench and start with the 2 wide men who are best defensively. They are Mandy and Dobra. Then we just need to magic up a RB. 1nil at h/t. 2nil at f/t. Win in extra time.
Get it on, bang the gong , get it on

Unfortunately we don't have one unless Vontae appears as if by magic!

It will be interesting to see how we approach Friday's game. Cookie's style of play has got us this far and prior to the penalty on Sunday, I thought we were the better side.

However at 2-0 down, we are chasing the game and I feel we need to be a little more direct/positive in our approach if we are to get anything from the second leg. We can't afford to concede, but we need to score at least two goals. I don't expect Walsall to shut up shop either.

I know Lewis Gordon was your MOTM on Sunday, but in an ideal world he doesn't start on Friday as far as I'm concerned. Michael was miles off it also. However, when he's on his game, he offers the greatest threat of all our wide players but we can't afford to gamble on whether he turns up or not. I think we all know that Mandy is wasted at RB and we need to find a way of him linking up with Dobs and Tom Naylor.

Having cut the grass this morning, Friday's team selection and formation is causing me a bit of a headache!

He's had us twice.

16/17 lost 2-1 at Shrewsbury
17/18 lost 2-0 to Cheltenham (Jack Lester's 1st game - we were terrible and Tommy Lee was shot to pieces by this point)
Here we go again!
