Yes. But it's not the same and hardly a regular offering in most places.

Slightly off topic but I drive past the butchers on the main road in Holmewood quite often and it always looks decent - is it worth a visit?

A new kitchen being fitted has given us an excuse to eat out a fair bit lately. The regular haunts have all been visited, Stones, White Horse, White Bear, and Zaika were all great as usual but surprisingly we had a really disappointing meal at the Elm Tree in Heath.

Tried a couple of new ones too. Visited Little Italy in Dronfield for their half price pizza and pasta mains deal on a Sunday. It was heaving and despite booking we still had to wait 20 mins for our table, which didn't impress me. The food was decent but I wouldn't rave about it. I thought it was no better than Lombardis or Giorgios and not as good as Sicily...my wife and daughter loved their Calzones though!

Tried the Prince of Wales in Baslow yesterday, which we've not been too since it was Rowleys and I have to say it was very good. Not cheap with a roast dinner at £23 but the quality was excellent and it's been refurbished nicely too. All 5 of us enjoyed it and the fish and chips and burger my daughter's had were classed as delicious. so we will definitely be going back.

Barley Mow near us booked for today which is generally decent and I see Batemans Mill has reopened and is getting a few good reviews online, but don't know anyone who's been lately so am holding off for now. Has anyone on here visited it recently?

I reckon you’re purposely drawing out this kitchen fitting as much as possible 😂

I was amazed how crap Little Italy was when I went. Food could have been matched by anything from an Iceland freezer.

Suprised to hear about the Elm Tree, we go once a month generally for the Sunday carvery and it’s always really good I think. Don’t think I’ve ever been for a normal meal however

We've been a few times and it's been good and the Carvery was what I fancied but I booked for 5pm and it finished at 4 so only the main menu was available. I had a chicken and mushroom pie off the specials board and they needed suing under the food descriptions act. Mushrooms aplenty but they obviously couldn't catch the chicken.....

.....the steak in my wife's pie was tough as old boots too! Won't be going back for the foreseeable. The Barley Mow was steady but unspectacular today.

You've got a lot to thank Keir for! Did he pay for the entire kitchen or did he just donate the gold bust for the centre island? 😂

Anyone know a decent pub / gastropub between Retford and Chesterfield? Got a few hours with my dad as there are no trains from St Pancras and it's Kings Cross to Retford for me on Sunday.

Be nice to catch up over Sunday Dinner somewhere relatively peaceful. Usually go to Hardwick Inn or The Devonshire or Elm tree at Elmton but fancy somewhere different if for no other reason gives us something new to talk about!!
Guess I picked the wrong week to quit sniffing glue!

Have heard good things about the Bees Knees at Laneham - never been but former colleagues who lived Retford way used to use it.

Given location, Devonshire at Langwith would have been my first choice. What about the other one in their group at Farnsfield? https://thelionatfarnsfield.com/

That looks very decent, I'll see what the old man wants to do.

Appreciate the heads up, The Ferryboat just up the way from this one looks a cracker but probably wiser to be heading back towards Derbyshire.

The lion is excellent mate, just seems a bit of a detour from a Retford to Chesterfield route.

Thank God I am working class then!

If you are looking for a reasonably priced gastro pub between Redford and the Town, then look no further than Langworth. No joking, the Jug and Glass or The Devonshire are both very good!

Devonshire at Langwith is always a solid choice. Unlike the Jug & Glass it is also (just) on Derbyshire soil.

Neither of those hit the spot quite with me but I think I am biased against the Dev as it was my school drinking place way back when...

Class is based on how you behave and think and not your job or how you think you are politically. You are more middle class than me, I'm more likely to be fund eating out in Harvester than a gastro pub these days (but I am at Ivy Asia on Saturday!)

OK...

Thanks for trying to ruin my favourite thread on here with unnecessary BS btw.
