Mitigating factors that he was being chased and threatened but being in possession of an 18” knife should, IMO, lead to a custodial sentence regardless.

And that is exactly why knife crime in this country is becoming an epidemic
There is just no deterrent
And its not just knife crime
Theft, anti social behaviour etc is rife across the country

The law allows for much stronger sentences than that. The country needs to instruct the judges - a stabbing doesn’t deserve the sentence of some nasty face book post

What difference does that make?
Maybe:-
Culture, peer pressure being influential.
Yorkshire is Yorkshire
Never the twain shall meet.

Before it's used as a stick to beat the current government with, who knows how long the culprit has been in this country?

How about them revealing the information then, likewise the Iranians who were arrested at the weekend over the terror plot. Where were they living, how long have they been in the UK, how did they arrive in the UK, what’s their immigration status?
A bit of transparency rather than the Southport subterfuge wouldn’t go amiss.
