Slightly off topic but I drive past the butchers on the main road in Holmewood quite often and it always looks decent - is it worth a visit?

A new kitchen being fitted has given us an excuse to eat out a fair bit lately. The regular haunts have all been visited, Stones, White Horse, White Bear, and Zaika were all great as usual but surprisingly we had a really disappointing meal at the Elm Tree in Heath.

Tried a couple of new ones too. Visited Little Italy in Dronfield for their half price pizza and pasta mains deal on a Sunday. It was heaving and despite booking we still had to wait 20 mins for our table, which didn't impress me. The food was decent but I wouldn't rave about it. I thought it was no better than Lombardis or Giorgios and not as good as Sicily...my wife and daughter loved their Calzones though!

Tried the Prince of Wales in Baslow yesterday, which we've not been too since it was Rowleys and I have to say it was very good. Not cheap with a roast dinner at £23 but the quality was excellent and it's been refurbished nicely too. All 5 of us enjoyed it and the fish and chips and burger my daughter's had were classed as delicious. so we will definitely be going back.

Barley Mow near us booked for today which is generally decent and I see Batemans Mill has reopened and is getting a few good reviews online, but don't know anyone who's been lately so am holding off for now. Has anyone on here visited it recently?

I was amazed how crap Little Italy was when I went. Food could have been matched by anything from an Iceland freezer.

Suprised to hear about the Elm Tree, we go once a month generally for the Sunday carvery and it’s always really good I think. Don’t think I’ve ever been for a normal meal however

We've been a few times and it's been good and the Carvery was what I fancied but I booked for 5pm and it finished at 4 so only the main menu was available. I had a chicken and mushroom pie off the specials board and they needed suing under the food descriptions act. Mushrooms aplenty but they obviously couldn't catch the chicken.....

.....the steak in my wife's pie was tough as old boots too! Won't be going back for the foreseeable. The Barley Mow was steady but unspectacular today.
