Whilst I have been a big fan of Boot yesterday would have confirmed to Cook that a 1st choice keeper will be required and should be a priority in terms of recruitment.

He got away with a few dodgy moments yesterday obviously but he’s a solid keeper most of the time and I wouldn’t be too concerned if he was our number 1 next season. We are playing league 2 footy , all players have mistakes and inconsistency in them. We were lucky to have Tommy Lee at the club for so long , it was a position we didn’t need to worry about , then again , wet wipes in our fanbase still moaned about him.

I feel Ryan Boot is as good as we are likely to get as a back-up keeper. He has proved his worth over the last couple of seasons. I believe, this season, Thompson came in with a view to being our No1 but that didn’t really work out and Boot has now done enough to be part of next season’s squad.

The only reason we wouldn't be keeping Boot for next season is if it's decision based on us not being able to guarantee him the number 1 spot. If he ends up as second choice because we've managed to sign someone better, great. If we don't manage it then he's a perfectly acceptable first choice.

He’s absolutely dreadful. Most of saves he made against us were straight at him, his positioning & decision making is horrendous from what I’ve seen from highlights show throughout this season.

He had a good game against us, and tbh that's the only time I've seen him play but even from just one game, even one he did well, I got the vibes of someone who's really hit and miss and error prone/erratic. Not sure if that's true or not but something about him gave me that impression

He was hopeless in the away game!! He let Markandays shot go straight through him. Think he had one of those nights in the home game!

Like any player, we should not let just one decent appearance against us sway our opinion.

As far as Carlisle’s keeper was concerned the game was weighted in his favour to play a starring role being the subject of attack after attack.

A goalkeeper has to be able to concentrate and stay alert when he is not involved. Boot has proved he can do this as he has saved us, ala Tommy Lee, on several occasions when the opposition have broke away at pace.

He made a good save down to his right but no good to leave Gordon pinned by Slew if it was possible for him to reach the cross

Yeah the problem is though is we're in league two. Even if you get lucky and get a decent league one standard keeper, they ain't gonna be faultless otherwise they'd be playing higher up. If you keep looking for every fault in whatever keeper we get at this level you're going to drive yourself crazy.

Following on from commented goalkeepers, I thought the Morecombe keeper was very good. One point blank reaction save in the second half was brilliant.

Boot is a very reliable 2nd choice, we need a new 1st choice but I see no reason to release boot on his performances this season, he's saved us on more than the odd occasion
all we are saying, is give us ...a goal, or 2+

We have been spoiled for keepers in my lifetime and this is probably the longest we have gone without an outstanding one, Tommy being the last, although in my opinion even he was a notch below the likes of Stevenson, Hardwick and Mercer, Billy being the last truly great one we had (he kept us in the semi final against Middlesbrough and nearly saved their penalty.) It intrigued me what he was doing playing at our level.
I doubt we will see such keepers again. Regarding Boot, yes he’s flawed but will suffice at present unless we can get someone better. I wouldn’t want another young loanee who turns out to be no better than Boot.

Stevo was the best.
I wouldn't be too disappointed if Boot was no.1 next season in L1 or 2.Just don't want any young untried keeper on loan in the no.1 jersey.

Agree he did look a tad shakey but I’d be prepared to give him a two year deal as an understudy.
