Markanday's was a season-long loan. But they will always come with a recall option in the window.

Is that really 'always' - no exceptions - can't believe it ? No win situation if it is - he plays really well and he is recalled to parent club to play, or to be sent elsewhere for a more lucrative deal for club, player, or both. He is nothing special and you can keep him.
I can't see a Premier League club recalling the likes of Metcalf . Nothing in it financially in their multimillion pound world to switch his loan club if he is progressing and getting game time. The comparatively tin-pot Blackburn made a few quid with Markandy probably, as did the player. I would say development payers from Premier teams will stay the distance - anything else is definitely a risk unless the contract states season-long with no recall options.
