Going back to the original post , he isn’t good enough neither is Duffy and colclough is too inconsistent , we need more robust players with a bit more in the locker than the current ones , Gary Robert’s effected games in lots of areas where as the current crop have limited success only near the corner flag

My frequent observation to my mate as the teams run out is "they're bigger than us". The old adage rings true 'a good big un is better than a good little un ' .It's worse than that really - a physical team can stop a technical team playing simply on the basis that it is easier to destroy than create - it happens all the time as 9 home draws shows. Walking back to my car after the last home game a complete stranger walking alongside says to me "frustrating int it - I could mark Olakigbe." Yes - to use your words, we need more robust players.

I took my forest & derby mates to the match today & they were raving on about Olakigbe….thought he was the stand out player.

Always good seeing an opposing view from other fans

He's the sort of player who does impress you on a first viewing.

There's so much frustrating about him.
He's very predictable for an out and out winger. 9 times out of 10 he dips his left shoulder, tried to flick the ball over the defenders leg with the outside of his right foot and get to the line where his cross is generally a chip to the back post.
His most dangerous attack today was in the first half when he actually came inside for the one time and got a decent strike away.

Try actually being at the match from time to time then come to an informed opinion, rather than spending your time on the golf course.

Still learning the game - has fluctuated between frustratingly poor to electric - pretty good today . Young Metcalf has improved beyond recognition - Olakigbe needs a season to do the same.

He needs to be coached in all the tricks, figure out which ones he can do and then practice them til his legs drop off.
He has the raw speed and you can see he has 'that quickness' to pull it off - very much a case of practice makes perfect and utilising whichever trickery works per game.

So, to summarise, essentially he's inconsistent? Don't really hold that against him at the age of 20.

Metcalfe on Day 1 as a Spireite I said was one to watch. Very impressive from a young lad.
I'd snap him up at the drop of a hat - at the very least on loan - next season.

If he can bulk up a little Metcalfe could become a very decent player.

Said exactly the same at the time…absolutely quality footballer…playing on a consistent basis has total grown him as a player & showing superb qualities…be a lovely player to sign if had the opportunity

Watch this space…this lad has serious future at a higher level

Not at all, but he is inconsistent - but he is 20 and learning.
Figure out his best moves, practice his best moves and then there is a player.

I see it as any other 'specialised player' -
practice your skills, whether it be dead ball free kicks to long range shots to skinning players on the wing and deliver and ball into the box - practice, practice, practice. And maybe you'll get somewhere in the game of football

Everton’s u21 player of the season last year.
After the way he has finished his season here I’d say there was fat chance and no chance we could sign him. Unless Everton were generous enough to send him on loan again. Way of the world though dictates he will go on loan to a league one club next season.

I think he would benefit having another season in league 2

All the loan managers see is a league ladder- with the aim their youngsters climb it.
If not- it’s time to move them on.

Pepple will most likely be back at Southend next season.

Olakigbe would probably be better off at that level, too.

Metcalfe is definitely worth another look.

Prefer a squad populated by our own players, though...
