It could be argued that yesterday’s squad apart from the defence was the strongest we have as the injuries to the creative players are over, although obviously key defenders still missing. Despite this we were thraped which is worrying.
The little room for manoeuvre with the defence is obviously a major factor. It could also be argued that the likes of Grigg and Fleck are still feeling their way back and the injuries throughout the season have been a massive disruption from which we are still feeling the effects.

However there is also the nagging feeling that even with our best players all fit and firing we still won’t be good enough.
Grigg, Madden, Naylor, Fleck, Grimes and Banks, even if they stay fit are not going to get any better, whilst we seem to have seen the best of Colclough, although hopefully he can get his mojo back. Perhaps most worrying Dobra, excellent player that he can be, is still inconsistent and sometimes anonymous as he was yesterday.

for almost every club in the country, once a season at least your team gets turned over, it happens, yesterday it happened to us, it was a shock of a result given recent form and their inability to put the ball in the net for most of the season, it happens, even last season we had games where we got put in our place results wise, and in the summer we will strengthen the team and i reckon be right up there, i also predict that next season at least once we will get a hammering at some point.

Look at both Leeds and Sheff u results yesterday and they really have something to play for but didn't turn up either

Yes of course they do. Villa put 7 past Liverpool a few years ago and even we scored 4 against them once (although they also scored 4) and Man City have probably lost more games this season than in the previous 3 or 4 put together.
Doesn’t make it any easier when it’s your team on the receiving end though., especially when the doom mongers are predicting relegation and extinction. And wanting rid of the best manager we have had.

quite and i hate us losing but it happens, in terms of the doom mongers as you call them, my advice, just ignore it if you can, so much nonsense is written and there are some posters who it seems to me simply can't wait for defeat so they can roll up their sleeves and go to work, then there are others who can't wait for a said player to put in a bad performance to prove to us all they were right "(eventually they will be) yet fail to acknowledge the same player turning in a good performance, it's a strange world.
I think we've had a decent season, with some highs and lows, some dissapointments and frustrations too along the way. We still have something to play for going into the final bit and i go Tuesday night looking forward to it and hoping for a reaction to yesterday.

If Grigg had stayed fit I think we would have comfortably made the playoffs even if the other 14 had still been injured.

Our not turning up hasn’t been a one off. Far too many times this season the side has lacked pace, urgency, aggression and attacking intent.



A few weeks ago, literally a free kick with 10 seconds to go of added time, we didn’t put a ball into the box in the hope Grimes or someone would get a head on it to rescue a point - we passed a short hall sideways then 10 seconds later the ref blew the whistle.


That has been our soft under belly. All season.


Expecting sides to let us have easy possession, to play at our leisure, to allow us to play our game and not make things difficult.


The fact that so far only Dobra has been offered a deal (that we know of at least) speaks volumes about the futures of the clubs out of contract players - they got us into the EFL - and have finished in a “respectable” midtable position. But that’s not good enough for this club. Not good enough for a club whose average gates are over 7500 - and who sometimes get close to a sell out.


Cook knows it, and he knows his squad, his recruiting hasn’t been up to standard this season.


We shall see what happens close season, what signings are made and go from there

Agree.
The fact Walsall have won once in about 17 games and it took until yesterday for them to be knocked off top spot says it all. Zero consistency in any side in this league and our team that started the season (imo) would be the best in it.

I wonder if our recruitment this season has been somewhat restricted by having so many players in contract, which means we’ve needed to rely on loans and taking a punt on players trying to re-establish themselves after injury?

In theory, we have more room to work with this summer, so as you say, let’s see what happens
