I was thinking about Jamie grimes last night, and how the club has progressed under his captaincy. He has barely missed a game in four seasons(approaching 200 games), during which time the club has been on an upwards trajectory. Whilst others have been injured, he has been available. He has never shirked a tackle or a header in this time. His goals have won us loads of points when we were looking for a breakthrough.

I wish people would lay off him for the occasional mistake. He has proven himself as league two quality... he isn't perfect... but he is a genuine CFC legend. I just wish the fans would let him know that whilst he was here rather than after he had left.

Too many unforced errors unfortunately

Common sense comments, with which I totally agree. His qualities as a team player cannot be denied nor his commitment to CFC.We know his faults but some of his teammates over expose him at times. His time at CFC will not be over until PC decides it is,not the fans.
When that time comes I for one will remember his commitment fondly IMO.

Seconded.
He might even get a management opportunity. I think he's studying for the certificates. He's learned a lot.
Get it on, bang the gong , get it on

His defensive heading abilities are mostly reassuring - would be good for a back up. I'm not sure about 'legend' just a solid, no nonsense old fashioned centre half.

Some of his long range passing to Olakigbe on the left in the second half were perfect

We were coasting ,Jamie is totally committed to chesterfield he lives Nottingham as far as I know ,he's making the odd mistake then who isn't,he's good in there box at corners too ,I'd give him another year and also Palmer think they generally work well, another year for both ,

What I like about Grimes is he has taken time to improve his game. His worked on his distribution and improving his speed over ground adding to his aerial skills.
I said ages ago he'd walk into most of these L2 teams.

Jamie Grimes gets a lot of flak, but he's a lower league centre back who has a mistake in him. He has improved year upon year, and for me, he's a decent back up. How many times has he saved a goal with a last ditch block or nullified a supposedly top striker for the whole game? Both him and Palmer have earned their corn recently, and which other league two club could field two back up defenders as good as those two.
Changing the subject, I'd like to add a shout-out to Will Grigg, no he didn't score but he showed Pepple how to handle a centre back and lay off the ball for others.

Jamie Grimes scored twice against Boring Wood to secure our promotion from the National league. Legend!

Yep, can't take that from him. It isn't sentimentality with me, I genuinely think he's a decent centre back.

We play a high line and any mistake at the back can result in a goal like it did Tuesday night. All players have a mistake in them including Premier League ones, it’s just that they make less than ones further down the leagues

I mean he is back up right now, our defensive partnership currently are at most 4th and 5th, maybe even 6th choice with everyone fit

Not another player in the club with Grimes heading ability and few in League 2. Shocking mistake on Tuesday but I've seen plenty of Premier League players do things gifting a goal. I expect him to play at Tranmere.

I'd be really surprised if he didn't. I remember both Hird and Evatt being caught out the same way as Grimes did on Tuesday night and they both played at a higher level than Grimes has.

We have to move on at some point, and improve what we have in the back 4. I would think Grimes will be looking at at least a 2 year contract at his age which I’m not sure we’ll be keen on, so a parting of the ways might suit both parties.
If you tell the truth, you don't have to remember anything.

Yes but they don’t make them as often

Both Hird and Evatt made some real howlers and more often than I'd like to remember.

Well said.

I've said it before and I will say it again, we appear to have gone out of our way to find a replacement for Grimesy instead of finding someone to play alongside him. Palmer, Dunkley and McFadzean all appear to have similar strengths and weaknesses to Grimes.

Given our success last season, the fact that we are knocking on the door of the play offs this season and considering the number of games that Grimesy has played during that time, I'm certainly in no rush to wave him goodbye. He has got a mistake in him, but they happen all over the pitch, made by every player on the books.

There have been times this season where Grimesy (along with a few others) could have kicked up a stink about not starting games, but he's got on with it and together with Ty and Ash Palmer given Cookie something to think about.

If all of our central defenders were out of contract this summer and I had the choice of retaining two players based on what I've seen, Grimesy would be one and it would be a toss-up between Ty (depending on his injury) and Ash Palmer.

On a related note, on Tuesday night at least for the majority of the game we saw how our midfield can and should protect the backline. This has been a bit of an issue for me this season because it's not happened nearly enough.
