I was thinking about Jamie grimes last night, and how the club has progressed under his captaincy. He has barely missed a game in four seasons(approaching 200 games), during which time the club has been on an upwards trajectory. Whilst others have been injured, he has been available. He has never shirked a tackle or a header in this time. His goals have won us loads of points when we were looking for a breakthrough.
I wish people would lay off him for the occasional mistake. He has proven himself as league two quality... he isn't perfect... but he is a genuine CFC legend. I just wish the fans would let him know that whilst he was here rather than after he had left.
Well said.
I've said it before and I will say it again, we appear to have gone out of our way to find a replacement for Grimesy instead of finding someone to play alongside him. Palmer, Dunkley and McFadzean all appear to have similar strengths and weaknesses to Grimes.
Given our success last season, the fact that we are knocking on the door of the play offs this season and considering the number of games that Grimesy has played during that time, I'm certainly in no rush to wave him goodbye. He has got a mistake in him, but they happen all over the pitch, made by every player on the books.
There have been times this season where Grimesy (along with a few others) could have kicked up a stink about not starting games, but he's got on with it and together with Ty and Ash Palmer given Cookie something to think about.
If all of our central defenders were out of contract this summer and I had the choice of retaining two players based on what I've seen, Grimesy would be one and it would be a toss-up between Ty (depending on his injury) and Ash Palmer.
On a related note, on Tuesday night at least for the majority of the game we saw how our midfield can and should protect the backline. This has been a bit of an issue for me this season because it's not happened nearly enough.
