Got too scared to rely on a group saver so just booked it all. Yes the 7:12, genuinely scared for my life. Any ticket info out yet?

Cya on that early train. Getting awful flashbacks to when we lost there under Sheridan, can’t wait.

The last time I went was in the FA Cup I think. We were awful and a session in Liverpool before thankfully made it slightly more enjoyable. Had a load of cans on the train back and left my mate asleep at Chesterfield train station (I'd been to the toilet and assumed he was leaving via another door). I'll never forget his face as he woke up as it pulled away 😆

Yeah went in the fa cup too, we were just as bad that day than we went under Sheridan and unleashed Bowery and Boden on them in league 1. Dark days

Seem to recall a Friday night under the lights up there, Alan O’Hare’s debut I think.

0-0 or 1-1?

2:1 loss. Remember it well. I managed to lose mine and a mates tickets on the walk to the ground from Rock Ferry station. Retraced our steps and managed to find them lying on the pavement in the envelope still. Then missed our goal as I had to go for a slash. It was disgustingly cold as well. Ended up wishing I’d not found the tickets.

Im looking to get public transport into Liverpool city centre after the game to meet my other half.... although we havent booked a hotel yet which might affect our plans (Grand National dependant)... So I was looking at getting the Mersey Ferry across ... but their quick plain direct crossing appears to only run Mon - Fri - for the commuters... I don't want to pay for a scenic River cruise at £11 - 13....

You need to be in a ballot for the tickets, especially for Centre Court, but I think there’s a few walk ups available for Henman Hill.

When I went last time we got some underground train under the Mersey (from Lime Street?) that spat us out on Birkenhead.

There are regular buses (4 or 5 an hour)... I just fancied taking the ferry... it appeals to the anorak in me.... My last trip to that part of the NW, I drove through the tunnel.... all good fun...

A Tranmere fan work colleague of my other half sent this email....which might help.

The best way to get to Prenton Park from Liverpool City Centre is to get a 423 or 471/472 bus from Sir Thomas Street through what I would call the "old tunnel" (and more formally known as the Birkenhead Tunnel or "Queensway"). Get off at Singleton Avenue - Highgreen Road (which is at the junction of Borough Road and Singleton Avenue). Walk back to Borough Road and past a row of shops to reach the ground. Away fans are in the "cowshed" stand (named after the previous covered terrace on the site), which is at the end you will first reach. The Fan Park is open to visiting fans. The food and drink are good and reasonably priced. To get to it, turn right into Prenton Road West at the Prenton Park Hotel, then enter the car park just before the Mersey Clipper. The fan park is a large white tent immediately in front.

Click on "Show all stops".

An all areas "Saveaway ticket" costing £6.50 (plus £1) for the card you need to use it would be the cheapest way to do this. It is valid on all buses, trains and ferries (cross-river journeys only) in Merseyside, plus the trains to Ormskirk and Chester.

Bus tickets are complicated by the fact that there are two operators (Arriva and Stagecoach). Their individual tickets are not interchangeable, except on the 471/472 service which is a joint service.

At that time of day, the area should be safe, though I think I would recommend Rock Ferry rather than Green Lane.

Looking online we got the train to Rock Ferry and walked calling at a couple of boozers.

Just going back in the memory bank but were any other posters on here involved in the battle of the Mersey Clipper prior to the 2-2 draw in the FA Cup 1st round in 1985?
