when it was nationalised and losing money...

Individual pits lost money lots of pits made large profits and this constantly changed. My colliery was ?6m in profit when it was closed 3 months into the financial year. Swings and roundabouts

Correct... but the industry as a whole was losing money and couldnt sell what it made. When your pit made a profit, how was its revenue calculated, was it the actual sales price or was there some transfer price for inter pit / company transfers that gave a standard price for internal sales, and how was that calculated?

The reality is that the industry as a whole lost money so miners as a whole were being paid by the taxpayer...

Only on this forum could a harmless conversation about aviation suddenly revert to miners.

It is Chesterfield's answer to Kevin Bacon's degree of separation, apart from 6 degrees is replaced by 3...

Too true. Numerous threads for this kind of thing, with the same old name calling and baiting.

A little addition to this thread, we flew back from Dalaman on the Dreamliner last Friday, early hours of the morning. All was going well until over Germany flying at 40,000 ft and at 500mph when the cabin crew seemed to be concerned about an issue behind us on the plane. Thinks developed quickly with the captain asking if there was a Dr or any trained medical personnel on board then we had the cabin crew rushing back with the defibrillator and CPR being performed. The seat belt signs came on and we were told that we?d be on the ground at Frankfurt in 12mins and performing a controlled emergency stop on the runway so that the plane didn?t have a long taxi to the terminal and the medics could get on board ASAP. It was one hell of a descent, but totally warranted with the situation. The paramedics eventually got the female passenger off the plane and the last we were told was that she was breathing herself when they took her off into the ambulance. Fingers crossed that she made it!

We're on the Airbus 380 from Heathrow to Kualur Lumpur next yr, before swapping to the A350 for next leg to Bali...

Anybody on here already been, got any recommendations on things to do/see whilst out there, we're planning on doing as many tours of the island as possible, and maybe the odd trip to neighbouring islands if possible too, but if anyone's been a few pointers wouldn't go amiss.
all we are saying, is give us ...a goal, or 2+

Just spent an enjoyable few hours at Manchester Airport indulging in one of my little past times watching planes take off and land. The first cpl of hours were at the airport pub at the top of the North Runway with a meal then outside watching the incomings, then drove round to the South Runway and a short walk to the viewing area to watch the planes take off. Highlight of the day was seeing the majestic A380 arrive from Dubai then take off a cpl of hours later. Great few hours away from all the politics!
Highly recommended to any other boring gits out there!

Flew back from Dubai last week on the A380 in Business Class with the wife who is on crutches. It was OK but not worth what you pay. Had she not had her leg in a brace we would?ve been more than happy in Economy. The interior was a bit dated and shabby.

Not surprising really as it's gone out of production after only a relatively short production run. Worked on the production. Marvelous piece of engineering

Just been sat in T2 at Heathrow and you really don’t get an idea of the scale of the A380 til you see one up close IRL and by other planes.

They’re a majestic sight.

Indeed, one night in your Bath Road Holiday Inn was enough! (joke BTW - the exec rooms are excellent and very well appointed).

We did manage a 2.5hour delay though so over 4 hours in T2 isn't much fun, unless you like watching planes come an go or spending money!

Holiday inn wasn't one of mine... although we did have one with direct views of the runway from the bar. Also on bath road

No, many of my colleagues were ex IHG.

I love Radisson. Also a good Sofitel. And a nice Premier Inn ;)
