Was loosing faith and never thought i would see the team win a trophy but they have finally broken the mould and best of all the first english manager to win the league cup in 21 year. Will be a few bad heads in the north east today. I think the victory will have also been enjoyed by even non newcastle fans as everyone loves the underdogs and for someone other then the big continental teams to win something

Slightly off topic but this win did make me ponder something that other forum members might have had to deal with-

As a Spireite living in Newcastle for 5 years now (a Spireite by parentage only might I add, having never lived in Chesterfield) I'd never considered anything other than having any future children be raised supporting tahn... however, it would feel a little cruel to deprive them of the social side of watching a local team (not to mention a local team who are actually successful!!!)

What are people's thoughts on supporting a premier league side AND a lower league side? Personally the thought of supporting two teams doesn't sit right at all but I'd hate for any future BurySpireite spawn to be resentful of the camaraderie with local kids (thankfully as a child I was proud of being a Spireite and telling all my Man U supporting friends that they were glory supporters and should support Bury instead).

My two oldest grandkids have two teams. They were born darn sarf so one chose west Ham (a team his Dad watched) and the other moved back to Chesterfield just as Man City won everything... so he likes City. But they both go to watch Chesterfield with their Ipswich supporting Dad and have become Chesterfield fans as well.

A prem club and a local club is fine as long as it's not any dee dah club. In your case a local Prem club and Dad's team will work...

why would you prefer Arsenal to Liverpool? Very odd.

I've always had a hatred of Liverpool since we played them at Anfield in 1979. I remember, we went on a coach from town. Me, my dad and a school friend. I'd have been 13. We didn't expect to win, and we didn't. But Alan Birch scored a consolation goal, so we were going to go home happy. So don't surround our coach as we leave and throw bricks at the windows you Scouse scum.
Rant over.

No, they didn't.

Heysel stadium? English clubs banned from European competitions?
A new hope.
