I’d be tempted to give him 2 years to keep him here as a regular backstop/cup keeper. Hard to find quality reserve keepers let alone No1s

He is good enough to be our number 1 and he has proved it, given his recent run in the side.

He should be a shoo-in for a contract even if it is a number 2

Agree he controlled l the game first half. If only he could play like that more often.

Thought he looked terrible early on against their speed merchant

I'm hoping Notts style suits him better

Very few CBs are comfortable with players running at them, or behind them, with pace. The trick is to cut out the supply at source.

The NL players we had, and those remaining, are key to the dressing room atmosphere we had and to which Cook has recently alluded to. Maybe more than we first anticipated will be offered new terms as squad players in an effort to continue this camaraderie.

Excellent win tonight with the inclusion of these players who work for each other.

Notts next - we owe them one - and, maybe, it will be our turn for a bit of fortune on Saturday.

Palmer more than most and with Grimes alongside him...

Hopefully they'll be up to Jatta and McGoldrick

We have struggled against 10 men in the past. It ain’t easy playing against 10. But Town put on a clinic on how to do it tonight. Thoroughly professional job. Dragged them round the pitch to places they didn’t want to be and used the extra space really well. Salford couldn’t have complained if that was 6 or 7.

Everyone excellent particularly Mandeville, Pepple and Banks but I tell you what, Sparkes has to be top of our summer shopping list. He is exceptional for this level. Wonderful left foot. Really hope he just has a knock.

Said on here many times that I struggle to remember us playing well against 10 men, will remember this one.
Said at the start of this thread we would struggle as the pitch would be like a ploughed field, apart from the injury to Sparkes,it seems we overcame that pretty well also.
Had no problem with Metcalf starting either as IMO from watching his games, yes a couple of times he has not performed as we hoped but he is learning and has shown there is a player there more often, and does like to go forward.
Shame we missed so many chances as double figures against these would have been very satisfying, but more than happy with four and a clean sheet.

They did. Garbutt was captain & Tilt took the armband when he came on.

He still referred to Garbutt as captain after thar happened.

Just got back. Dominant from start to finish. All played well. Boots 1 on 1 save was vital. Mandy ran his socks off and deserves man of the match. Also impressed with Metcalfe who was a terrier in midfield.

I missed the incident for the red even though I was stood about 15 yards away. Up to that point we’d done OK but looked vulnerable to their counters and frankly it felt like a matter of time before they scored from one. After that it was virtually all us…my only gripe was we should really have scored more.

Top drawer performance from Liam Mandeville this evening. The best I’ve seen him play all season. Scored two and yet another lung busting defensive sprint to prevent one for them. Shout outs to Metcalfe Pepple Boot Banks and Palmer too who all had good games.
The greatest miscarriage of justice since my case against the producers of the Never Ending Story

Agree with what plenty are saying after tonight. Banks was excellent in the more advanced positions last season, so I’m surprised it’s took us this long this year to utilise him there again this year. He is such a good player that I think we sometimes take for granted actually, glad he’s getting a run in that more advanced position and it’s no surprised we’ve picked up since he has.

Mandeville best game of the season by a distance today, that was the Mandy we know and love.

Hopeful Sparkes injury isn’t a bad one because his crossing from the left has become one of our biggest assets.
