Any recommendations locally?

Last one seemingly ain't coming back. Not chasing him again, sent his Dad to do the new kitchen (decent job) which he's not been paid for but things need finishing off after my renovations.

Had other priorities recently but can't leave it any longer.

Sorry to hi-jack this thread but i potentially need a painter and decorator too. Bathroom done just before xmas but paint on ceiling over bath peeling off already, maybe some reaction to previous paint? Now nearly march and decorator still aint been to rectify it. Decorators seem to be a law to themselves. I rang several and most could not even be bothered to call back, one never even bothered turning up to give a quote

In one word, no!

In 20 odd years of looking for a good one and spending thousands, we've yet to find one. The second to last one that we used was a belter! We've got solid wood worktops and surrounds in our kitchen and part of his job was to sand out the scratches and recoat the wood. We went to work one day with brushed chrome trim surrounding our cooker and microwave and came home to find that they had been sanded too. We can only assume that he had caught the chrome with his sander and instead of putting his hand up, he did the lot and thought we wouldn't notice.

If you've got the time, an eye for detail and a bit of patience do it yourself because the likeliness is you will end up with a better job.

Good luck.

Would highly recommend Chris, I've used him lots of times and he's very dependable. He's a Blade but I try not to hold that against him

The lad who quoted initially (recommended by the builder) was supposed to do the entire job in October. Didn't, claiming some family issue (may be correct of course). In November he sent his Dad to do the kitchen and he did a great job but moaned about his son taking on too much and promising what he couldn't do. Had a text from him saying he'd back to finish off before Christmas with apologies etc and never heard from him since 🤣.

I'd chase him but he's not had a penny off me and I'm comfortable with that arrangement given the service received.

Cheers will bear that in mind. The decent ones (seems to be few) seem to be really busy and dont even give quotes. One local one said he never gave quotes on a weekend or evening, only early in the morning he still never rang back.

My dad did mine at old place, hes no expert but did a presentable job which is all i wanted considering im renting and dont want to be hear too long. If dad was still with is i sure would not be chasing a hoard of un-reliable and lazy painter and decorators. It makes ne wonder if they would be suddenly more eager to take on the word if i had a massive manchant

Simple solution; purchase a lovely massive manchant and reap the rewards of painters and decorators coming to your aid!

Following having our extension done we had to have the rendered exterior of our house painted which is a whole new level of pain to sort. Rang folk who just had no interest in the job saying it was too big, some who turned up then said they werent interested, one who turned up then quoted a ridiculous figure basically saying he didnt want it before we finally found a lad who ran a company out of Duffield\Belper way. Turned up when promised and did a cracking job doing a considerable amount of wall space on some very warm days especially when the house was being painted white!! The original frontage of the house needs doing again as the original stone has some iron ore deposits in it so you get rust spots after a while which is very annoying!

Yes a good friend of mine since school but had him recently to do me a couple of ceilings after a water leak and he ended up doing me two accent walls in the living room while he was there for the same price while he waited for the first coats to dry. No mess, no fuss and punctual too.

Big town fan, too, used to sell 50/50 until recently.
