Pretty sure Swan went on to run The Mill pub at Brim, near the canal. Could be wrong, I thought Steve Bains scored a pen against Derby (it was a header)....I blame the 90s dance scene 👀

I think it was Swans lad that had it, the sign was adorned with his Dad and England colours

I think Pete was the original and one of his sons took over eventually, was it the lad who played for Matlock, can't remember.
Also one of his cohorts in the match fixing saga, David 'Bronco' Layne ran the St. Helens for awhile.

Pete Swan snr ran the 3 horse shoes in Brim, and then the Mill in Brim. It was taken over by Pete Swan jnr when his dad became ill. Sadly it has now been sold at auction and rumoured to be turned into a dentist. Shame?.was a great boozer in its time.
If anyone is after a programme for their first game then get in touch

My first game was a 2-1 home win against Carlisle 28th March 1978, Fern and Simpson. I had the programme which was a double issue as incredibly we had played Rotherham at home the day before. I no longer have the programme as I leant it to Phil Tooley for an article he was doing on double headers for the match programme, this would have been late 80?s, and I never got it back😂.

Next game though wasn?t until 22nd October 1985 a 2-1 defeat to Blackpool, Ernie with a very late consolation. Immediately hooked after that and only missed home games when I?ve been out of the country.

Can?t be sure but if my match day programs are anything to go by, Plymouth at home 30\10\71. Won 2-1. Either way it would have been during the 71/72 season wi mi dad. Got virtually all of them for years to follow

This thread had me scouring through treasured souvenirs and I was pleasantly surprised to see home attendances over 6,000 even midweek during this season, even with teams like Rochdale and Halifax playing. As an 8 year-old I was a bit oblivious to these sort of facts of course. Some things don?t change though: the Shay was slagged off way back then in the program notes for being unplayable.

Possibly first away game on mi tod was with a school pal at Swindon in 1977. A miserable day to forget like last week. 3-1 defeat

Lots of codgers on here I note

As an aside can anybody remember the last time we played league matches on consecutive days. It?s one of my bits of Spireite trivia.

Following a post by a young lady from Sheffield on the "crowds next season" thread, and her mentiong her first game got me thinking, who can remember their first town game and was you hooked straight away.

Mine being the last home game 60/61 v Reading it was also our last home game in the 3rd division, trend setting

I'm told I was taken to watch Blackpool reserves as it was rumoured Stanley Mathew's was making a comeback after injury and dad wanted me to see him. Apparently he didn't play and I slept through the game in my pram, but woke up screaming near the end just as we were denied a penalty.
Things don't change.

This is proving to be a great thread and bringing many memories to those contributing
