Michael Barnes, he's a legend ...

For all the wrong reasons, never have we had a player on loan from such a big club, turn out to be that bad...

Michael Barnes came off the bench for his debut and the first thing he did was let a simple pass to him on the touch line in front of the Saltergate dugouts roll under his foot out for a throw. That was as good as it got for him. I?m not sure I have ever seen a player so out of his depth in a Chesterfield shirt before or since. I actually felt sorry for him. He was just a kid.

I was thinking that, too. Albiston was knocking on but had quality. Didn't stay long and off he went to Chester City.

Yeah, good old Frank the Lord, and Malcom Darling was a good un. We had a team of free transfers and throwaways at that time, but we seemed to pick up some decent players.

I've heard several say that lol. What about Keith Kettleborough. I think he ended up with about 1 in 3 goals for us.

only us would release our top scorer at the end of the 66/67 season lol

I remember a hat trick he scored in a 3-1 victory over Tranmere on Foinavains Grand national winning day

as a result we kicked off at 630 because it was just before the completion of our floodlight installation
and the match finished in near darkness

Malcolm Darling. Always liked him. There was always a chance of us being awarded a penalty when he played. He was a master of getting them but I think even he would have struggled to get one from the refs we've had this season!

Saw Arthur Albiston playing for Man Utd on the big match revisited on ITV4 last Saturday morning and it took me back to when he scored on his debut at Saltergate for us.
Can anyone remember Steve Phillips playing a few games on loan from Manchester City for us years ago and also Neil Pointon from Everton?
