Dobra Rumours

I really like Dobra and he's vastly improved while he's been here so I certainly wouldn't want him to leave. Good player for this league and probably the one above at this moment in time, but things can change.

I don't remember when the club has been run this well or supported this well and I believe what ever decision is taken it will be for the benefit of the club, one thing is for certain, Dobra won't be forced out. We may well lose him but we will deal with it and move on, just like we have with Markanday.

If he has a release clause in his contract, we wont have a say in it and he will have to be convinced not to go whereas his agent will probably be dragging him out of the door.

That's my worry. I understand he has just changed agents, so you can bet your boots his agent will want him to move on and make some money. To lose 3 of our best players is a major task but I am sure Cook will have a plan

I think you have a point there. Dobra has been my favourite player for a long time now because of the way he immediately goes straight for the opposition penalty area at pace as soon as he picks up the ball. He does ignore teammates in a better shooting position quite often - he did that v P Vale in the second half when he smashed a shot from a sharp angle into the side netting when Pepple was in space to his right waiting for a tap-in. I think you have to accept sometimes that strikers get their goal totals by being selfish in the opposition area, and we'd all be moaning if a player messed up a pass instead of shooting. If Dobra sharpened up his finishing, and converted more of the chances he creates, often by dribbling into the opposition penalty area, then he could definitely play at a higher level. I personally think around mid-table Championship would be his 'ceiling ' if he achieved a greater level of consistency.

Regarding sharpening up his finishing has he not got 11 goals in all competitions so far this season. That puts him on track for 20 goals this season and a 20 goal striker is what most teams want.
In simple terms, we need another couple after losing Markanday, Berry and Grigg.

He's not a striker either, he will be (if he gets there) 20 goals from midfield which a lot of teams would really like.

I like Grimes! I praised him on here for an excellent performance against Wimbledon recently. Unfortunately his passing is poor and we're a team who play out from the back. But then I suppose you shouldn't castigate a fish for not being able to climb a tree. He'd be bob on in a team who play direct to a big man up top.

Paradoxically some of his long balls out to the left are superb, it?s the short quick passing we?re he seems to fall down, even more so recently.

Agreed, sometimes he'll have a match where he'll ping several accurate balls out to our left and right wingers and I'm like wow, he's sorted his passing out. And then next match he'll mess up a 10 yard pass 3 times. I know inconsistency comes with the territory at this level but I think he's one we won't be renewing in the summer. Which is a shame cos he comes across as a top bloke and you can never doubt his commitment to the cause.

The point I'm making is that his 11 could already be 15 or 16 if he'd converted a higher proportion of his chances. Yes, of course he'd be gone from here if he did make that improvement. I'd still expect the Championshp to be his upper limit because he is relatively easy to knock off the ball, unlike Markanday, for example, who will go higher IMO, because he has similar ball control and dribbling skills as Dobra, but is physically stronger and harder to knock off the ball.

But not as bad as our keeper who simply cannot kick s ball, his right foot is atrocious In fact he positively shats himself if a player dares to just pass it back on to it, it drives me up the wall

Different attributes. Berry is much better at having a natural eye for goal and seeing a pass. The later one let's Dobs down TBF and he'd be long gone if he had this and would definitely be playing on the championship. Dribbling wise, tenacity with the willingness to track back, tackle and work hard for the team Dobra is amazing at.
The thing is value for offensive players is judged on these attributes and that's why players like Berry are always worth a punt. There is a lot of players about that are really good dribblers and look good on the eye, with little end product. Where dobra stands out from most of the others is his work rate and tenacity. Dobs is coming along nicely TBF to him, though I don't ever see him having a natural ability to unlock defences with his passing.
