I doubt it I think grimes starts alongside McFaddzean Saturday

That's what I'm hoping for, so we get Tom Naylor back in midfield.

Cook says Dunkley has had an operation, suspect he won?t be in the January squad initially

Possible Freudian Slip from Cook in his interview. Talks about Dunkley and how he is probably a 'captain going forward'. Does suggest Grimes won't be around too long

And only three players (Gordon, Dunkley and Grigg) unavailable! Unfortunately they are three of our best but still, it?s a miracle!

I thought it was in reference to when he was brought in.

Do love a Cook interview when he's in a good mood.

I think it was pretty obvious that the plan was for the defence to be remodelled around Dunkley. Guess the big question is now whether he can resume his career.

Given his age and his limitations, I think you?re right about Grimes - we are looking to upgrade the defence.

Even if grimes is on his way out, you will still get a player who will give everything while he is on the greenstuff, his attitude can never be faulted, I?m looking forward to seeing him and McFadzean a couple of old school bruisers, takes me back to Ridley and green

Grimes is OOC this summer - is 34 turning 35 in December. He?s been a great servant for us but not up to being a mainstay in a team wanting to get promoted to League 1. Will leave with best wishes in summer no doubt.

I think it's fair to say that we're all rooting for Chey Dunkley to get back to commanding our defence, but I think we'll have to be as patient as he's being and probably not expect him back before the end of the season. Grimes is more likely to get another year on his contract if we're still in league two next season, but if we get promoted, we'll be looking to upgrade. We'll need four centre backs going forward, and at present we have Grimes, Williams, Palmer, Dunkley,Donacien, Macfadzean and Araujo and we have Williams, Dunkley, and Araujo out injured with Palmer on his way back, so unless Williams is close to a return, I can't see Palmer being loaned out, unless we use Naylor as stand-in centre back again
I'm glad I haven't got to sort out the squad going forward, who's included, who gets loaned out and does anyone leave us permanently during this window. All I can say is Cookie, you earn your coin.

Dunkley on X/ Twitter

It?s been very frustrating to say the least, but the support from my club @ChesterfieldFC & the football world has been overwhelmingly great. Players who have undergone the same surgery have reached out with support. I?m not 1 to post myself in hospital gowns for sympathy Pt1..
Nevertheless the surgery was a success & have been discharged normal active, no neck brace. it?s unusual tbf. I will be working tremendously hard to be better than you?ve seen me. Until then, the boys & the new additions will continue to fight & push up the league #WATAW 💙⚪️⚽️

All the best 'Dunks', hope it is a complete success and that you can be back to your best sooner rather than later 🙏.WATAW

It?s excellent to hear Cook have more ambitious aims than some on here.
Cook- we are going for promotion
Posters- I will be happy with a mid table finish.

Even Woodmans target is promotion for Bromley.

Grimes won?t get another year even if we?re in league 2 still

There's 63 points still to play. 75 points should be more than enough for 7th place though it has needed more on a couple of occasions in the last 25yrs (and as few as 65 once). 2 points a game might be a stretch from here on in but if we get it right it's not impossible.

At the start of the season, I would have taken a mid-table finish and considered it a success. However, it became apparent very early on that we weren't being outplayed and we were holding our own without playing particularly well at times.

What's troubled me in the last 6 or 7 weeks is some of our home support. Games have been there for the taking and on a handful of occasions, I've left the ground wondering if we (the fans) need it handing to us on a plate.

Cookie's set our stall out now and I hope it proves to be the catalyst for us all to leave no stone unturned in our pursuit of promotion.

He's not back on the pitch training though. He's in the gym, but even injured players are in the gym most days.
