Was it his own choice to play on?? Was he advised not to carry on but chose to ignore that??

At that time it was a big game for both teams, so maybe he wanted to carry on . ??

Perhaps he did, perhaps he was wrongly advised, perhaps he was encouraged. Whatever, it was the wrong decision and should not have happened as they had the HT break to assess him. You see plenty of players wanting to carry on with significant injuries but ultimately it is the managers decision whether to sub a player or not.

Extract from an article about George Carline's wider situation (written by Paul Fisher I think)

On October 5 last year, Chesterfield met Wrexham in a clash of clubs desperate to join the EFL and a players studs went into Carline's knee

I tried to play through it says Carline. In the second half, when I was on my standing foot to volley, my leg just gave way. The bone pulled my kneecap apart into two pieces.

The top half of Carline kneecap was sucked up into his thigh muscles. The surgeon who operated on him said it was an injury he had only seen previously in car-crash victims.

Sounds like questions should have been asked of someone

I didn't write anything about George Carline.

Was he encouraged to play on by the manager at the time against advice of the medical staff?

Apologies just found the original article. Pity you didn't because it found its way into the New York Times via The Athletic - might have made you famous and earned you a couple of bob.

Could you ask Jack Clarke the same question? Is there a common denominator here?

He did well, but was wrong to carry on playing. I had a cracked kneecap while at work, and it's something I'd rather not repeat. Carline is certainly a better man than me, because I tried to get up with a bit of help and my leg just buckled and the kneecap popped up. I had it relocated at hospital but they then found it cracked as though a bullet had hit it. Mr Carline my estimation of you as a man has just grown ten fold.

I thought Carline was injured first half and played on for the few minutes to half-time, when the damage was discovered. At that point it was an emergency, and he didn't come out for the second half.

Soccerbase has him being replaced by Alex Whittle in the 89th minute which doesnt seem right but quite a few other sites do as well but they could all be getting the data from the same place

That's how I remember it and also thinking at the time, that the injury was probably a result of Parkinsons being a tactical genius.

Didn't this happen at the time that Rowe employed a Head of Medicine and Sports Science world superstar? Perhaps not as I don't think they got on together for very long.
I look forward to reading Crooty's memoires.

Injuries this season are bizarre especially considering we had very few last season and I can?t imagine training methods or backroom staff have changed massively.

Apologies if this has already been discussed and I'm out the loop, but does the Mcfadzean signing mean the end for Dunkley this season?

I?d guess it means the end of Grimes, sadly.
